The electric window in my Scirocco jammed last week and I had to take it into my local VW dealer to fix it. They replaced the electric motor and regulator but I was shocked at how expensive it was. Has anyone else run into a similar issues as I wasn't expecting a fault electric window to cost nearly £500 to repair?
I spoke to the service manager at the garage to query to price but he said the motor/regulator was £250. Plus 2 hours of time and VAT took the bill close to £500
Is that the going rate or does it seem excessive ?
Options: Truffel Leather, 19" Wheels, DVD Sat Nav, Xenon Lights, Bluetooth Phone, Parking Sensors, Drivers Electric Seat, Electric Fold-able Mirrors, Winter Pack, Hill Hold, Flat Tyre Indicator - added VW Racing Springs, and changed Bluetooth to newer model.
Just a tad expensive on the labour if it is indeed only for two hours, rates vary but you should be around the £44+vat per hour. The regulator is another thing, don't know who makes it and can't see one readily available at the usual places I would look.
Options: Mid 2012, 2.0Tsi 210bhp, Candy White, DSG gearbox, Full Leather Interior, Heated seats, Satellite navigation RNS315, folding mirrors, SD card in, Ipod in, USB in, Mudflaps front and Rear, Premium carpet mats, Osram night breaker plus main and dipped beam, Osram cool blue side lights.
Does seem expensive but then again volkswagen are an expensive company. You can get a second hand regular for about £60 prob even cheaper direct from the breakers.. stuff like that i would generally try and fit myself rather than pay for fitting.
Saying that you have the knowledge that it has been done correctly and they will stand over it if anything goes wrong piece of mind doesnt come cheap

From my experience main dealers rates can vary from £80 to 100+ including the VAT up here. I would say it is neigh impossible to get anywhere close to the figure you quote. Mine you it is partly influenced by the oil industry up here, but that 80 is quoting Inverness and Dundee Audi also. Prices for VW were very similar to this.

I had to have the passenger side window motor / regulator replaced last year. While in the dealers having this done the driver side window failed too, so I had to have it fixed as well! Luckily it was within the warranty period.
