MDI what does it do?

Post by H1 OLA »

what is the MDI function all about? I was bored and was having a fiddle on the VW site. If spec "my" car with sat nav, dyna audio and 6 cd changer pack it takes away the MDI pack. just curious to know. Thanks

I've just had a qucik whizz on the net. Is MDI what allows you to to plug in ipods, sd cards etc?

You can plug all sorts into the MDI. It comes with a USB lead for hard drives etc and also an iPod cable for guess what? I'd never go for the 6cd as you can get a cheap hard disk and stick hundreds of cds onto it. Not sure about the RCD510 but on the RNS510 stereo / nav unit there is an SD slot so you can copy your tunes onto the 30GB hard disk.

The RCD510 has an SD slot as well.
I agree about the CD changer. There are so many other options for taking lots of music with you. MP3 player, iPod, USB, SD and also an MP3 CD data disk.

hi guys, its the first time i write in your forum, even though i visit it pretty often..i have ordered my scirocco with the media interface also known as mdi.but my question is if it is possible to use a card reader connected in the mdi..because my soundsystem is the rcd 310 and it does not come with an sd interface..so i would like to use an sd 8gb that i already have in my possession, through the mdi(that i have ordered)..
thank you a priori for your answers, keep up the good work

There's no SD interface on the MDI, it's just a socket you can plug either a USB or iPod lead into. You might be able to plug some sort of card reader into the USB cable for your SD card, but I'm not sure if that would work.

Depends if you could get an SD->USB connector.
Sounds like it would probably be more hassle than just getting a USB stick.

Answer is yes.

Buy an SD to USB adapter and it will be exactly like plugging in a USB drive.
