Castrol Edge 5w40 oil is the correct grade for your engine, Annual 12 month service or Long Life service regime.

If it is Magnetec 5w30 A5 which appears to be the Middle East region version of the oil brand. This is not suitable and is not listed against the Scirocco 1.4Tsi's and is not VW approved. If it carries a VW specification approval, it must be VW502 for 12 months servicing or VW504 for Long Life.

Shell Helix Ultra AV-L 5w30 is specified for your region and a good alternative. Which is VW spec 504/507. It appears the Shell Helix will work to higher ambient temperatures at 5w30 grade. And will cover either type of servicing period.

504 is OK. I use LL oil Shell Helix AV-L 504/507 even though its on 6 / 12 month services.

Castrol Magnatec C3 SAE 5W-40 VW50200/VW50500 is approved and recommended for Israel region.

However, 5w30 grade Castrol Edge 5w30 is not advised. Grade should be 5w40. Castrol Edge A3/B4 5W40 VW50200/VW50500 is approved.

For 1.4TSi-160PS, VW50200 is fixed 12 month servicing. VW State VW50400 or VW50400/50700 for Long Life. Castrol state despite this that the above oils in the region can be used as Long Life service regime. The grade in the region for Castrol is always 5w40, unlike Shell above in previous post.

The application above is not UK but Israel.

It is 5W40 for the whole of the Middle East from the Eastern Mediterean (Turkey-Egypt) through the Arabian Countries. Under QG01 (LL) it is specificed by Castrol as Edge A3/B4 VW50200/VW50500 5w40 as well as covering 12 month servicing. Hence my comment in the post above against VW worldwide requirements although it is in the Approved List.

Where as in the UK, Castrol Edge C3 5w30 is VW50400/50500 covering 12 months and LL at VW service.

Rw1 do you have info on approved oils for the Caribbean for this engine? I'm currently getting Castrol EDGE 5W40 with SPT from my dealer but would like to research alternatives.

Motul 8100 X-clean is only a VW approved engine oil as spec VW00502/VW00505 for any VW engine and in only one grade - 5w30.
VW 503.01 oil
Oils listed in this section meet the VW 503.01 specification. This specification is specifically for Audi RS4, Audi TT, S3 and Audi A8 6.0 V12 models with outputs of more than 180bhp, running with variable service intervals (30,000km or 2 years). Now superceded by the VW 504.00 specification.

VW 504.00 oil
Oils listed in this section meet the new VW 504.00 specification. These oils are suitable for all petrol engines with extended service intervals (30,000km or 2 years).

The VW 504 00 specification supercedes the VW 503 00 and VW 503.01 specifications. VW 504 00 oils are suitable for engines meeting the demands of Euro IV emissions standards.
