R Line 170ps MPG/Fuel Range
R Line 170ps MPG/Fuel Range
Hi All,
We currently have a normal Bluemotion 140ps model (Wifes company car) and I'm looking at buying myself one. Now I know what the 140ps is like to drive, but seen a lovely black 170ps R Line model that I'd really like but I'm worried about the MPG different between the two (I cover 25 - 30k a year) so I'm wondering what difference to expect....what's rough miles per tank? Is an average of 47 - 49 acheivable?
THanks

Re: R Line 170ps MPG/Fuel Range
I've averaged around 55mpg in mine over the year / 30k miles that I've been driving it. My commute is 60 miles of motorway. The DIS tells me i average over 60 but it's a bit optimistic. I get around 650 miles yo a tank.
Of course it depends how you drive it, nut i would have thought it as a good gauge it will be around 5mpg less than you currently get with your 140

650 is really good mate, thanks for that information.
Mrs car gets around 550 to 600 I think on the routes she does.

I get the about the same as cuprabob from my 170, mine has a stage 2 Revo remap on it.
I don't find the range any different from my old A3 140.

I would only just be able to get 600 miles out of a tank if I were driving consistently under all speed limits and doing about 60mph on all motorways and dual carriageways - and that isn't how I drive
My MFD states that I average 46mpg - but that is optimistic, as when manually calculated it comes out close to 41/42 mpg. I get on average about 475 miles per tank (around 53 litres / ~£72).

I've had both the 140 and the 170. The 170 is about 5% thirstier around the doors and the differences are negigible at motorway cruising on longer journeys. That Blue motion tech only really offers decent savings in city traffic. So it all depends what type of driving most of your journeys involve, or whether you're bothered about losing 5% economy for a transformation in 4th/5th/6th gear performance.

Re: R Line 170ps MPG/Fuel Range
My computer tells me I get about 47- 48 mpg average. But I normally get about 550-570 miles between refills of about 52 litres on a regular commuting week.
This drops a bit for long weekend drives or lots of running around town which is what brings the average down...
I gets about 5 - 10% lower in the winter though...
Always amazed how high some people get their mpg on here, I can only assume a steady 60mph commute with no stop start traffic. Sounds lovely I have seen an indicated 60mpg+ but only a few times in the past 18 months and no where near the 70mpg+ some people manage to get!

Re: R Line 170ps MPG/Fuel Range
Real life fill up have shown a regular 51-52 mpg and I'm really pleased with that as I live in a very hilly area. So with mixed motorway and rural driving that is very acceptable to me. I had to do a long motorway stint a few weeks ago, four up and because of the amount of traffic keeping above 70 was almost impossible (M4/M5) the fill up recorded 55.
I have shown 70.3 on the trip once, just to see if it could be achieved but that was driving like an old man. (Sh*t, I am an old man ).
My wife, on the other hand, decided to be very naughty and the trip only recorded 43 and for those that know it that was down the Glynneath Bank.
I would say that 50+ is readily achievable whilst still having fun.

Re: R Line 170ps MPG/Fuel Range
I'm increasingly envious over some of the figures quoted in this thread - so much so that it makes me wonder if there's something wrong with my car?!
Even if I drive ridiculously sensibly for an entire tank (never going above 2000 rpm, etc), then I would still only just scrape 550-600 miles - and that would be at a push!
With normal driving, if I get anywhere near 500 miles out of a tank then I'm over the moon :/
