Condensation issues

Hi all,

We have a 2010 R and have noticed now that the temperatures are dropping that there is an awful lot of condensation inside on a damp morning when you first get it - much more so than on either of our other cars.

Certainly in my Skoda Superb I can get in, set to demist and just drive off straight away, whereas we have to wait for a bit of heat to come through in the Scirocco before we can think of setting off.

Is it just ours or are they all like this?

I'm not saying I'm all knowledgeable, but I'd suggest the following....

1) I don't think the car is any better or worse than most others I've had/driven.
2) The level of condensation inside the case should be directly related to the moisture content in the car overnight.... If the previous day was very wet/humid, then I'd expect condenation if the following morning is cold. Likewise if the inside of the car has excess moisture, the same. This may be that the matts have got wet, someone's left a drink open, or there's a leak, but I'd leave the last item as a last resort.
3) I'd suggest the speed the heater heats up is entirely independent of the condensation levels in the morning. Some cars are good at warming up quickly others not. You should try dealing with iced over windscreen jets when your car is mid engined.... it's horrific!.

I have a golf with the same issue. The only way I can combat it is to have the heaters on full heat when on a long run (say 1hr plus) with the windows down an inch or so, this really pulls out the moisture from the car. The condensation usually will stay away for a couple of months after doing this.

Not hit it so far this autumn but wet weather, wet shoes and clothing all add up. Use the AirCon with normal heating settings to get drying air which will lift the moisture out. (NB Aircon will only work above intake air of +3'C)
