DSG and engine breaking while slowing

Post by phil4 »

I wondered if this was normal for DSG.

While slowing down, ie. in traffic to a roundabout and breaking. The DSG seems to shuffle back down the box, and while doing so I get engine breaking, differing amounts at different times.

It makes it quite a challenge to slow smoothly and linearly as it's like someone keeps randomly adding a little extra breaking.

It's not horrific, and wouldn't stop me going for DSG again, crikey the speed it does the full throttle upshifts makes it worth it alone, but just wondered if this lack of smoothness was normal, and if there was a way around it?

Yeah you get used to it. I suspect future iteration of the hardware and software will gradually make that better.

Found that remapping sorted that out - the car will hold a higher gear longer rather than downshifting as it did before and makes it smoother.
