Retro-fit Cruise, definitive answer??

Post by Nickell »

Hi all,

I've read through the topic on this but I wondered if anyone had a DEFINITIVE answer on if this can be done at the moment?

I took delivery of my 2012 2.0TDi GT last week and discovered that the Cruise control I had optioned had not been fitted, (although I did get the full heated leather and Nav which was a surprise!). It's my company car and it seems the company who placed the order with VW missed it off by mistake! They've told me that as it is their error they will pay for it to be retro fitted...but they would like it done by a VW dealer.

I have now enquired at 3 different dealers and been told the same thing by all 3, they cannot order the parts or retro-fit them as VW have told all dealers there is an issue and have suspended supply until this is sorted out. VW have not given a timeframe for when the parts will be available so everyone is clueless. In theory the dealer could just order the stalk and code it to work, but due to the ban from VW they are not prepared to do this under any circumstances! One dealer explained this by saying they have to note on the vehicles 'history' that Cruise has been retro-fitted in case there are any issues down the line??

Awesome Gti in Manchester have told me they can fit cruise as they are not affected by this supposed ban like the dealers, they've quoted £295 fully fitted which seems reasonable.

I'm really missing the Cruise as my last 5 or 6 cars have all had it and I find it very useful on the motorway, especially through the average speed camera sections!

So my questions are does anyone know if I'm being fobbed off by dealers who are not interested? Is there any truth that they have to add it to the cars history? If I had it fitted by Awesome is that likely to cause any issues down the line if I took it to VW for service/warranty work and they realise it was retro-fitted by a non VW garage??

Bleedin minefield!!

I've had exactly the same response from 3 dealers - no retrofit possible on my (2011) model!

TBH tho with regard to warranty, knowing Awesome, I would imagine they will provide you with peace of mind in the, unlikely, event of something going wrong with the car that could be directly attributed to the fitting of cruise.
