Air Filter

Post by paul t »

I have a 1.4tsi 160.Can anyone give a difinative answer as to whether fitting a K & N performance panel air filter (not over oiled)would adversely affect the maf sensor.I think i also read somewhere this sensor is not fitted to this engine? Any information would be appreciated.

Its a myth that k&n foul maf sensors. Had a k&n on my last car for 70, 000 miles with no exhaust/emission issues whatsoever

It's not a myth but it tends to he self inflicted as some people over oil the filter when cleaning. If you keep the filter as it left the factory you won't have any issues.

funnily enough part of the urban myth stemmed from K&N having a pop at ITG lol

if you re-oil you have to make sure you take off the excess

Had the effect with a OBD1 MAF on the VR6 years ago with a K&N straight out of the box untouched. The MAF was Thin Film type. Performance gradually deteriorated and it got rougher running it. It threw fuelling faults in the ECU within 200 miles. Cleaned up and put a standard filter back in. Run fine ever since.
