I'm picking my car up this weekend and want to make sure I have plenty of tunes for the 5 hour drive back.
Most of my music is in MP4 format from using iTunes to convert although I don't have a working iPod at the moment. If I load the MP4s into a USB stick will they play? I have a RNS510 if that makes any difference.

Re: MP4s on USB stick
Hi Mark, not as far as I know - it will only play MP3 and WMA (not protected). I tried many other formats on my RNS as a "test" and nothing else would play... looks like you'll need to convert the MP4's. Did you take the media-in option? If so, another option would be to replace your ipod, then stream the MP4's from that...

Thanks Howard. It's not a new car, it's a 58 plate GT TSi. It's got the iPod / USB connections under the armrest, is that what you mean by media-in?
Re: MP4s on USB stick
Media-in is standard on UK specification and yes it's the USB/iPod connection under the arm rest.Mark_D wrote:Thanks Howard. It's not a new car, it's a 58 plate GT TSi. It's got the iPod / USB connections under the armrest, is that what you mean by media-in?
I've found that the easiest option is using an iPod - not the cheapest, but least time consuming to keep music library up to date.

Re: MP4s on USB stick
As HowardB says above, the RNS 510 won't play MP4's.
I've got a few MP4's on my USB stick in the armrest and when it gets to them it simply skips them and plays the next MP3 track.
Hope you enjoy the car.

Re: MP4s on USB stick
Another point to consider if whether you iTunes music has DRM protection - in which case you can only play it on authorised Apple devices and they will not convert to mp3.
Re: MP4s on USB stick
Thanks all. I converted mine from cds rather than downloading from itunes so just started doing it again to mp3. The sat nav has a 30gb hard drive so I'll load it all on to that I guess eventually, just wanted to make sure I have plenty to listen to on my journey home
