The ABS system checks the rotation speed of the individual wheels.
If one wheel is a
lot slower than the rest, then it is probably skidding, and the brake on that wheel is released a little.
The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System is a piece of software, that takes the same ABS systems information and says:
If one wheel is a
little slower than the rest, then it is probably flat, and turns on the warning light.
It just needs to be reset, to know what "normal" is, when You change tyres.
Therefore, the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System does not need any additional hardware. Just the reset button.

No skidding. Does not spin slower.
The systems initially takes its calibration from pressing the Tyre Pressure Indication switch on the assumption that the tyres have been first checked for correct pressure.
If the tyre that is going flat, it has an effective smaller diameter and therefore smaller effective rolling circumference of the tyre. This results in the wheel speeding up and the wheel's ABS sensor register's this.
The algorithm in the ABS calculates over a short period of time each wheels characteristic following calibration. So recognises a tyre deflating by the rotational increase in speed. At a specific tolerance, the system warns. The warning can also occur due to abnormal loading of the Scirocco on one side or anything that changes a tyre's effective diameter.
No braking or releasing of brakes is involved.

OK, If one wheel is a little
faster than the rest, then it is probably flat, and turns on the warning light.

bianco: how did you find out about the coding bit? Because as far as I know, the Scirocco ESP-module is not documented (yet)... or do you have a modified labelfile for it?

Well, tried 27 as the Golf instructions said - no dice
Found the elecronic diagram that someone posted earlier in this thread, it says pin 35. That did the trick
It was bloody hell to get the wire out from the wrong hole though!
PS It has nothing to do with the ESP system. It is part of the ABS system (not being an authority on the subject).

No, I meant... How did you find out about the the Vagcom coding bit...

Its documented in VCDS v10.6.0 / v10.6.1.
Controller 03 - ABS Brakes.
03 ABS Brakes - 01.jpg
"select the second to last bit/field." in the Roccopedia might be better expressed as "Select Byte 16 and set Bit 2."

I know how it works, but thanks for the info

I have a clone cable at the moment, so I dont use the latest version yet... are there any more things inside the ABS coding?

Nothing documented as selectable 'bits' other than LHD/RHD model selected in Byte 15 and the above Byte 16 TPMS 'bit'.

The Guide is now so polished, it might as well be chromed

hello,
Sorry to ask but I would like to know which are the 3 wires from ESP button you have plug in the little black connector and if the order is important? Because according to the Kufatec instructions it must be:
-the grey one for" light"
-the brown for "earth"
-the black/green for "+"
But you've said the black/green stays in the esp connector and what about the last wire from esp which is purple/green? so i don't know exactly what to do...
If someone could give me some precisions.
Thank you and sorry for my english i'm from Corsica.

Leave the purple/green one in the ESP button please. And yes, it is REALLY important that you put the right cables in the right place.

When purchasing the kit from kufatec what options do you select....
incl. push-button
Golf 5 V
2008
Are the above correct?

Hello,i did the installation but I have another problem, I have vcds 805.4 and in byte 16 there is no information so if someone with TPMS could show me ABS long coding or coding of BYTE 16 checked with TPMS thank you

What are your 8 binary bits parttern showing at present in the Byte 16 window?

To change a bit without the Bit tick box being present, you change the relevant binary bit from 0 to 1 by overwriting the 0 to a 1 in the Binary Field to get the revised binary pattern, follow the instructions
here
C.
(NB. Wise
not to change other undocumented bits in the controller units as some do not revert. Red face at the dealers to ask for a controller re-programming!!)

Yes It works!!
Now I can see the icon of TPMS in the instrument cluster, it lights up for a second when I start the car.
If I hold the TPMS switch the icon in the instrument cluster lights up, once it turns off after 3 seconds I release the TPMS switch and I can hear a ‘ding’ coming from the instrument cluster. So normally It means the system is ok!!
Now I have to test on the road.
Thank you very much RW1
