Iv been getting quotes for insurance in advance of collection of my Roc.
25, 6 years no claims etc etc Best price £950 (VW Insure)

Tried Chris Knott, unfortunalty they had to waste a lot of paper because they dont email quotes, had they done so I would have said the £1070 was higher then the best price id found!

mortc002,

I have the same car as you (minus some extra's you have) and just got a quote from Admiral for renewal of £560

I'm 26 3yrs no claims (was only named driver previous to the 3 yrs), 10,000pa

So your best price seems high, only differentiator (and a big one) is location I guess??

I'm not sure what rating my area is on the scale...

Looking at this, I think I've been lucky.. I'm 31 with no NCB, living in central Oxford on a TDI GT 170.
I've just paid £475 with Admiral. :D

I added my parents as named drivers on my policy with my current car and it knocked about £100 off the price! Worth a try perhaps?

mine was around 100 quid dearer. I think this thing about women should pay more is an excuse to squeeze more money. around where i live, cars that roll over are Saxos with 1 x big exhaust and 5 lads inside. Never 5 girls.

never in my life have i seen a pink car or cars with pink furry steering wheel covers wedge between trees.

The DSG also added to the costs as well.

I think most ladies have prangs caused by carelessness, rather than sheer recklessness (us lads are to blame for those). They don't have fewer prangs, their prangs are generally cheaper though because they're at lower speed.

You do get the occasional female nutter though - a few years ago, I saw a lass launch herself over a large roundabout (dukes of hazzard style) at the end of a 70mph road. We were coming home in a taxi from a night on the lash, westerly to her direction. If we'd been 10 seconds quicker in getting to the roundabout, we'd have been hit whilst coming around it.

Lost count of how many times i've nearly been hit by a middle-aged woman who's come out sharp onto a roundabout that i'm already on, then doing the "I won't turn round and acknowledge your presence, nor that I did something stupid. If I pretend not to notice you, it didn't really happen".

Women's accident rates don't tail off with age and experience like mens do.

It's not all bad, this "gender equality" insurance ruling, women should get higher private pensionpayments as a result, even though they (on average) live longer than men.

Insurance is a funny thing, it is all going up and isn't limited to car insurance only. I will say that ours was renewed with First Direct (broker policy of Equity Red Star). They offered online a discount of 10% off your renewal quote. Not sure if this is still running as it was November when I did it.

One thing I will say to anyone who looks at car insurance read the small print. This is what makes the difference between one policy and other, also try going through a comparison site and selecting the top three and playing with the quote on the providers site. Add a second driver - preferably one that doesn't have a license full of points, and has accidents. This usually reduces your premium by spreading risk, also if you have access to another car (doesn't mean you have to be insured on the vehicle) then list it, spreads risk and reduces the premium.

I also never take legal cover or courtesy car cover, there is no need. If the accident is the fault of the other party then I would let me insurance company chase it and then reclaim my uninsured losses from them (why pay for legal cover this is all it does). If you want to claim for whiplash or injury there are countless ambulance chasers out there who do it for free. Courtesy car is the same, if it isn't your fault a car will be provided by the third party or you can obtain one yourself from the countless credit hire companies that exist.

I just got my insurance renewal in from Directline. Its gone up by over £120 to £608 :eyepop: They are having a laugh. I'm 42, maximum NCB, the car is garaged every night and I have my wife as a named driver on the policy. I honestly don't know how they can justify such a large increase. Needless to say I will be shopping around for a cheaper quote

Cor if I had a £1.00 for every view on this post I would have nearly paid for my insurance by now! :rofl1:

Am going to stick with FLUX  as getting fed up with ringing around all 'renewalled' out and judging by the rest of you it doesn't seem toooooo bad

Good comments all round thanks for the feedback

Well mine I reckon will be around £1k this time, as they always try to hike up, don't have to worry till November, but either way it's still annoying.

It does help if you actually ask them why they are putting it up. When they say "market trends" etc. Ask them to explain it. Then state that if they value your custom they will do whatever they need to make the customer happy. You understand they can't give it you for free etc.

Each time I have had my insurance go up since I started driving in 2008 and each time it's gone up the next year. I have stated to them the exact above and it's gone down. First with Norwich Union, but then had to change to Admiral, but told them about Norwich (as NU wouldn't go lower than £100 more than I was currently paying) and Admiral sorted me out (ended up £50 cheaper). Renewed with them after doing the above again to get a further 37% discount off what I paid the previous year (after they hiked it by £200) and then now I have this motor, I went with Elephant as they were cheapest.

Defo going to need to look into insurance deeper than confused or the other with that annoying fat Welsh bloke.

One thing, if you select Admiral make sure you quote on Bell and Elephant all the same company (EUI Limited) however the policies differ slightly so take a look and may benefit you to have a policy with one over another. E.G. Admiral do not provide EU cover as standard and would charge around £7 per trip, Bell and Elephant provide it for free.

Oh and don't forget to go through cashback sites and get some money back.
