atayub wrote:What happens is the telephone book does not fully download. So what does that mean, well in English i can receive and make calls fine. But i can not select a number from my phone book as it does not "fully" down load. Yet the strange thing is when I voice dial the number (this is the sort of cool part that you can press the voice button and speak the numbers and the kits speaks back and dials the number for you, downside is you have to actually know the number my heart in the first bloody place!). Anyway so assume you know the number and you voice dial it, it dials out and on the centre screen you can actually see the name from your phone book! So basically it only recognises your phone book this way. The other way it recognises phone book numbers is on the MDI and centre screen when you get a missed call, text messaage etc, you can read the information, you can respons by calling the person back by the memory in the car.)
Exactly the same problem with my Samsung Tocco.
Phone has Remote sim option which when activated will pair with the car and you can use voice recognition to send/receive calls etc.
But can't get access to my phone book :( when people ring me I don't know who they are because just their number comes up with no name!
Another disappointing thing (not sure if it is the car or phone) is that text messages you receive when the phone is paired cannot be seen on your phone when in normal use and visa versa. It's like its a completely seperate device that just uses your phone to use its signal!
O well, waiting for my upgrade..... :grumpy:

Mine will show the name of the person ringing if the car had about 2 minutes to pair. This is because the way i understand it, is that the name are downloaded from the phone via remote access, but not fully.

The issue of no name appearing only happens with me when there has not been enough time for the car to download all the numbers. Like i said the only thing i can't do is scroll through my contacts and dial

Phone that I have tried that do not work;

HTC touch HD, Nokia E71 (partially works, i.e. pairs but telephone book does not download) ;-(

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but the Bluetooth SAP specifications only mentions a SIM-card, not a phone number listing of a phone. This leads me to believe that phone numbers that are not on the SIM-card will not be transferred.

I still have my car on order, so I can't check myself yet. I do know some phones are, by default, setup to not use the SIM to store phone numbers (storage space on a SIM is limited). This way it only seems the phone is incompatible with the VW rSAP, while in fact there is nothing to transfer.

I'll do some more digging around when I get my car (build week 34, for now).

I sent Nokia an email regarding the issue I am having my E71 and the premium bluetooth and this is what they sent me;
And no the advice did not help at all. This seems like their general adivuse to "refresh a bluetooth connection" that he has probably just copy pasted.

Dear Asghar,

Thank you for contacting Nokia Care.

With reference to your email, I truly understand your predicament in regards to your pairing issue and the inability to access the phonebook with your Nokia NE71 and your Bluetooth, to rectify the issue, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

I recommend that you reboot your Nokia NE71 by switching it off before removing the back cover and battery. After 10 minutes, replace the battery and back cover, then switch the phone on. This acts as a temporary measure to reset the software of the phone and refresh the device's memory. Check and see if you still have the same issue.

If the issue persists, I suggest that you clear the earlier settings and pair both your Nokia NE71 and Bluetooth once again. This is to ensure that some anomalies in the earlier pairing is cleared. If you pair again, the Bluetooth will request for a passcode. If you have the passcode, please enter the passcode.

If you do not have a passcode or do not remember it, the generic Bluetooth passcode is "0000" to pair your phone with a Nokia Bluetooth device. Alternatively, kindly refer to the user guide of the Bluetooth device for the passcode. It may also be located on the device itself.

If you have difficulties in obtaining the passcode, you can reset the Bluetooth to the original settings to, for example, change the default user of the Bluetooth. When you reset the Bluetooth, all of its settings, including pairing information, are cleared.

To reset the Bluetooth, press and hold the power key together with the volume up key for 10 seconds. After the Bluetooth have been reset, the Bluetooth beeps twice and the red and green indicator lights alternate for several seconds.

Once you have done the above, please follow the below steps to set up a Bluetooth connection on your Nokia E71.

Select "Menu" > "Settings" > "Connectivity" > "Bluetooth" and from the following options:

• "Bluetooth" — Select "On" to activate the Bluetooth function. Indicates that Bluetooth is activated.
• "My phone's visibility" — to define how your device is shown to other Bluetooth devices.
• "Search audio enhanc." — to search for compatible Bluetooth audio devices. Select the device that you want to connect to the phone.
• "Active devices" — to check which Bluetooth connection is currently active.
• "Paired devices" — to search for any Bluetooth device in range. Select "New" to list any Bluetooth device in range. Select a device and "Pair". Enter an agreed Bluetooth passcode of the device (up to 16 characters) to pair the device to your device. You must only give this passcode when you connect to the device for the first time. Your device connects to the other device, and you can start data transfer.
• "My phone's name" — to set the device name for Bluetooth connections.

Please check if the connections have been established .

Just to share some information with you Asghar, Bluetooth devices are not universally compatible due to differences in technical specifications and software platforms. Therefore, a selected range of mobile devices can be used with certain devices. Not all phones would be compatible as the Bluetooth specifications can be different.

I hope this clarifies, Asghar.

Please let me know the outcome and feel free to write to us if you have any further queries in this matter.

Have a pleasant day ahead, Asghar.

Although the phone connects to the car and i am able to make and receive calls my phone book does not download on the car fully. When calls come in the car is able to identify the caller. But when i want to dial out i have no phone book to dial out from. Can you explain what the problems is and whether there is some sort of software update that I could possible download that can rectify this?]

I went down to the garage the other day to see if my phone will work with the bluetooth kit and had a similar problem to some of the guys on here... It would connect via bluetooth, but would fail to download.

Good news is that on my phone it's easily fixable - in the bluetooth settings there's an option for "Remote Sim Access" which was turned off. As soon as I turned this option on and tried to pair it with the car again, everything downloaded fine and worked a treat.

Not sure if it's a common option on Nokia phones, but though I'd mention it to see if it helps anyone :)

pedronimus, what phone do you have, this post is about phones that work and naming them for the benefit of other members.

I do have remote sim option ticked on mine, but no joy. I have not heard from one person on this forum or the other one who has a Nokia E71 and has managed to make the connection work in terms of dowloading the phone book fully.

Hi Pat,

well I stepped out with great expectations, but alas failed again.

After following your instructions and setting BB to listen etc I got a message on the MFD saying Mobile telephone is not compatible, I got a message on the BB saying connection to audio device failed.

Strange thing is when you search for devices it does find the BB and even displays the name I gave it, but when I click on it to connect i get the messages above and i don't get the 16 digit pin number coming up.

Maybe daft question I know, but is the RSAP enable on your BB.

I can confirm my E71 now works perfectly can't really put a finger on what cured it but I fiddeled a lot with downloads and settings. But i think the thing that did was trying to do a phone swith a new nokis 5800 express (which is perfectly compatible). Then trying again when switched back (i.e. numbers went from E71 to 5800 and back. I think something came with the numbers back to the E71 from the 5800 that sorted it. Passsed the 5800 to the mrs as not my cup of tea phone and back to E71 with full compatibility to car. HAPPY DAYS FINALLY, full 3 weeks after delivery of car!

Eureka, finally it all works (yep I did have the Rsap enabled all the way through this ordeal)

I visited my dealer and they tried everything - even tried resetting the computer, but still they couldn't get it to work.

they finally said after 1.5 hours that the BB isn't on our list of approved phones and it doesn't apear to be compatible, I left dissapointed but not put off, If Pat could get it to work it must be possible.

And finally I managed it, Pat's instructions are perfect , however, having tried to frustration I decided that something must happen in the BB software, so here is the steps I took that made it all go well.

Switch off the BB, remove the battery, remove the sim card (don't worry all your phone book and e-mails will still be there (mine were fine) wait 30 seconds, then replace the sim and battery and switch on, then follow Pats directions, set the BB to Listen follow the onscreen instructions, the 16 digit code came up on the MFD screen, then there are a few questions on the BB, answer these and the phone book downloaded.

Perfect connnection everytime i step in the car now, it was worth persevering as the Kit is great now it all works, thanks to all who assisted I'm well pleased
:vibes:

Hi guys,

Quick question here. I have managed to get my Blackberry 9000 to connect twice to the VW phone kit in my new car, but everytime it goes through, it asks if I want to turn of the SAP mode? What is SAP - I have googled this and I cant seem to get an answer!

Secondly, anyone have any idea how you turn this off. The phone forces me to turn it off which looses my connection and boots me out then I have to play around for another half hour using all the tips here to get the dam thing reconnected!!!

Appreciate anyones help!!!
