Re: car stolen updated
I've just read this for the first time since joining here. I'm not sure what to say. It must be a harrowing experience. I'm assuming that there is a positive side, in that no one was physically hurt?
I didn't know this kind of thing went on. I had heard stories of Audi R8's being stolen, in the same fashion, from around the more affluent parts of Altrincham, in Cheshire. But why a Scirocco?
Is it because of the R badge? Are they really that much sought after?
From a totally selfish and personal perspective, I'm wondering what on earth I've gotten myself into... Or is owning a GT version not going to attract the same kind of attention?

Re: car stolen updated
went through something similar thing in 2007.....
interestingly (they also took they keys of the second car without the car) as soon as we spoke to the car insurance company they said all they would do is reprogramme the immobiliser not change the locks.....at this point we were potentially claiming under house insurance for damage and thefts from house, and 2 car insurance policies
dealer said £600 to change one door lock and ignition lock, when we said we're paying not insurance, it came down to £300 including re-scrambling the immobiliser.

You're right it's not pleasant but the car is not going just because of a few unpleasant creatures

I would say it's time to move area to be honest, sounds like they're really targeting you.
I hope and pray it all gets worked out in your favour though. Keep your head up!

Re: car stolen updated
As above im shocked after reading this. Didnt know of this thread. Really sorry to hear this. Thats extremely bad luck to have the same car stolen 3 times?! If it was me id be considering moving home. I think after the 2nd time I would of had to get rid of it if it was me. Hope you get it back and the scum get caught!!

Updated post: car has been recovered and police have said it has light damage and passenger wing mirror missing. Three in custody. Incidently, I did move after the second incident and put dummy keys around the house but still...

Yes, I'd be interested too if they're not ludicrously expensive!!

Re: car stolen updated
It's hard not be interested in trackers, after reading this thread
I was watching some of those at ebay. From what I managed to understand, it's a GPS with a SIM card in it (it probably comes without the card and you put one of your liking).
You just receive an sms with the coordinates of your car, whenever you request it. And it seems to have some option to alert you with an sms, if your car is moved and whatnot.
Kind of simple, yet it sounds effective.
Would love to hear about other options tho'.

Re: car stolen updated
I have a 'tracker' device fitted to mine (http://www.tracker.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) - thank god and i paid around £250 subscription for the length of time I keep the car. The procedure has been that you dial 999 and receive your log number and then ring tracker and give them them it. They send out a signal from the car and the police with tracker fitted device pick up the signal.
Car has come back every time and have had a 67% conviction rate

Re: car stolen updated
Shocking - I'd take a big stick out on them! It does make you wonder about the free SIM and buying off any non legit dealer. I'd prefer to buy over the counter so my address is private and avoid ebay. Even then, I'd buy my own SIM elsewhere. Young kids stealing? It sounds more like they were the mules for a scumbag who can sell it without much suspicion other than not being able to get a HP check and the Log book. My god they just walked into your home..they could have asked to give up your house too while at it! And they could even take your job...
The primary fault here is that your home is not secure. Use multi-point dead locks and keep it locked at all times (thumbturn is ideal). Look to see who is at the door before opening and only open it to persons known. Get CCTV and you keep trespassers away for good!
Why should you have to move home - catch them and move them to prison.

Re: car stolen updated
Thank you for your response and the house was fully looked with a multi-link deadlock but thieves today appear to be well prepared and organised. I was thinking about getting some bollards
