Gimme an S...... Gimme a C.....

Post by Kev »

etc etc :D

Hand over went very smoothly. Everything was as it should be although they don't have the ipod leads in stock but it only has to come from another Oxford VW dealer so he'll post it tomorrow.

Couple of scallys had a good look round it while I was paying :)

All in all, very pleased!

Looks great Kev! But sounds like you were sad to leave the Puma behind, but it was getting on a bit I guess.

Just wondering, and apologies if you have covered this in the past, why did your car take so long for delivery? I see you have not gone for pano roof or had complications caused by the ability to supply Xenon's! NBit surprised they took 5 months.

Glad you have got your car now!

Yeah sad to see the puma go. It's been a great car and was the first one I ever bought new.

I had most of the money in an ISA and I wanted to wait until April for the full years interest to pay out so I didn't order until October (as the dealer had said the build wait would be 5 months) with a requested delivery in mid April. But then interest rates took a tumble and delivery times got shorter as people weren't buying so many cars so I asked for it a month early.

I see , yes I seem to remember your countdown ticker suddenly jumping down quite significantly! I should have mine on or around 28th March. Yes - ISA, don't talk to me about it, think mine is on 0.1% currently :(

I used to be a Puma man, and bought my original (Melina Blue) in 1999 like you, 'V' reg! I traded it in for a Thunder edition when they came out in 2001.

It's certainly going to take some getting used to. It's a very different beast to the Puma.

I'm just wading through the instructions. It's like flicking through an Argos catalogue. It's huge! I'm sure i won't remember half of it.

Incidentally, I asked him about running it in.
He said just drive it normally, don't gun it for a few days or max it and if I could, give it a long run in the next few weeks. Luckily I'm off to my folks in a couple of weekends and they're 200 miles away. Just leaving it in D for now until I get used to things and then I'll have a play with the paddles.

First off congrats Kev and enjoy!!!

The salesman said the same to me about the running in. Not red lined yet. Have another long trip on Friday up to Surrey to see my folks.

Great colour by the way!

Cheers

Nice one Kev,
Worth the wait then?
Had my Blue for 6 days and still referring back to the book on a daily basis! I'm just starting to get used to the DSG - using paddles etc but haven't gone in to sport mode just yet -I'm gonna wait till theres a few more miles on her first (only 200 at the mo') I have been experimenting with the chassis settings though, comfort for around town , normal and sport for the country, really works well.Coming from a MK5 Gti the improvements to both refinement and performance etc are substantial. All in all mine was worth the wait and is more fun the more I drive . Can't wait for the weekend!
I will post Pics but as the weathers shit at the moment I'll wait till she's had her first wash. :)
Cheers
Martin
By the way the mirror down works great!

Kev, since you've waited a while to get your car and read what everyone was saying/doing when they go their cars... I've waited a few days to let you settle in but I thought now is a good time to get your experience....

So first of all, congrats!

How is it? :D

Worth the wait?

Made the right choice?

What do you like/dislike?

How are you finding the DSG? - ever going back to a manual?

Was the sales experience good for you?

You don't have to answer all of them, and some of them are rhetorical questions lol

Well I printed out the roccopedia version that I'd collated together from previous answers and tried it in the car park.
Despite what the manual also says, in the convenience menu on the MFD I don't have Mirror Down as an option. So either it's not connected to the folding mirrors or it's something to do with build date. Maybe it was added after a certain time. I'm not 100% sure when mine was built though. It was originally supposed to be week 9 but it actually got built somewhere around Xmas I think. So that's a bit annoying. I was looking forward to having that.

rehmondo wrote:How is it?
Superb but very very different. Maybe because I'm coming from such an old car but the refinement and ride are a huge leap. It feels a much more substantial car.
rehmondo wrote:Worth the wait?
Oh yeah :)
rehmondo wrote:Made the right choice?
Oh yeah :) Nothing else really grabbed my while my ISA was accruing. The only possibility would have been if Ford had made the Fiesta RS they did as a concept in about 2005. But they didn't so I kept saving and waited for something else. I just wanted something a little bigger, a little more practical and a little faster.
rehmondo wrote:What do you like/dislike?
I like the ride and the ease of driving. It's not such a noisy buzzbox as the Puma. A much more grown up car. The performance, which I've only given a couple of stabs at, it amazing. Dislikes? Erm... it's slightly claustrophobic but I can live with that. The view out the back is shocking and the doors are huge but that's about it. At low revs it's a little sluggish for the first second or so until the revs and turbo catch up but not having driven a turbo before I guess that's something you get used to.
rehmondo wrote:How are you finding the DSG? - ever going back to a manual?
I think the jury is still out on that one.
It's an amazing 'box. It's so easy to drive but at the moment I'm only in D while I just get used to the rest of it. But if you put your foot down it knows what you're doing, drops a couple of cogs and you're off. That's superb. You don't have to think about what gear you want for what you want to do. It's all done by your right foot. I accidentally flicked the downshift leaver today coming off a roundabout and shot off :) The downside is that you're a little detached from that feeling of a gearshift but then I've been doing that for 20 years so it's all a bit new still.
rehmondo wrote:Was the sales experience good for you?
Yeah. I had a good rapport with the dealer. He's been very straight about everything. Maybe slightly tight on some things like giving me a full tank of petrol and I'm sure some people get bunches of flowers etc but all I got was a VW 100meg USB stick, and that was only cos we were talking about music storage. What I really wanted was the 1/43rd model in blue but he wouldn't budge. They must only be a tenner cost price. It didn't seem much to ask. But, I got a follow up email today to tell me the iPod lead was in the post and asking if everything was ok so far.

Congratulations Kev - now you will know what all the fuss has been about.

Never really read the manual myself (typical bloke or what) but I have been learning everything I have needed from your excellent website

Well done on both the website and receiving your Roc at long last.

Make sure you are in the right company though for the dinner party conversation that begins "I drive the new Scirocco and oh yeah I also have my own website all about it"

Cheers
My Roc was fast - but now its FASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you think the Roc is claustophobic (which I don't, and I'm a tall guy) you should try the TT... :)

The sluggines should get much better once you have run the car in properly.
