Is the R better than the GT ???
I have had my Scirocco GT 20 TSI for about five months now.
It just turned over thirty thousand miles today.(not in 5 months btw)
I am now wondering if I should trade up ? to a Scirocco R
Have any of you guys gone from a 20TSI to a R ?
If so how do the two models compare?
Is it worth the huge increase in costs to change ?
Alternatively how about Stage 2 remap and all the extras on the GT ?

i traded up from a GT to and R and yeah its to totally different animal, much much faster and better handling plus i think they look miles better than the GT, plus have it remapped and not much will catch you on the back roads

I swapped a GT for an R. Great decision mpg isn't much worse and if you buy second hand they are now early £20k.

I did the same as don't regret it at all. Doesn't cost much more in terms of mpg
Still going strong =)

Interesting comments I didn`t realise it was much quicker.
In saying that my GTI is remapped and is much quicker than the standard GT.
Think I will have a look around and get a test drive to see how it feels

In terms of costs, What Car quote 60.4 ppm over 3 years for the 2.0 litre GT and 72.0 ppm over 3 years for the R. This means it costs almost 20% more for the extra performance. I am not sure the new price difference is worth it but a used R could be a good buy.

I never had a GT, but I own an R...granted I don't do many miles but I drive it everyday and fill up 2 maybe 3 times a month at £75 to fill up...only other expense really is the Tax every year? Not that expensive really but like I said I never owned a GT so not sure how it compares.

Re: Is the R better than the GT ???
I had one of the first GT s and was always disappointed with the handling and ride in general after trading my Mk V golf gti in for it. Swapped it for an R a year ago and they couldn't be more different. I can't fault the R in any way and even on 19s its superb, get one it's a no brainer!!

I had the same dilemma myself a while back, I went down the K04 conversion route though.too hot wrote:I have had my Scirocco GT 20 TSI for about five months now.

The car is awesome and it certainly worked out cheaper than trading mine in and buying an R
Re: Is the R better than the GT ???
For me the 210 tsi has three advantages over the R.
1 Chain driven cam shafts(bad experience with rubber belts)
2 Cheaper purchase price.
3 Lower running costs.
However non of these will replace the smile on your face when you drive the R.
Go for an R a good used one may be a better buy.

Re: Is the R better than the GT ???
Having decided to modify my own 20TSI i`m saving a fortune on the purchase price of an R.
The Revo remap has made a huge difference to performace so far.
Unless its a new R I`m of the opinion its better the devil you know when it comes to cars

Re: Is the R better than the GT ???
To start with my english grammar aint that perfekt so forgive my spelling .
i test drived the gt and the scirocco 160 befor i bought the R . But i didnt test drive the R so i was abit suprised when i got the car becouse it was a huge difference bethen the Gt . It was like a perfection of the Gt .Everything that wasnt there was in the R .
the steering was alot bether
Ofc the acceleration was faster
The car felt more luxary
the car looked alot more aggressive
The breaks took alot bether
in curves the R held the road bether i assume becouse of the xds
and the cost for The R is totaly worth it instead of buying a Gt . think of it as an early investment instead of buyin "R-line spoilers and mapping" u will end up abit cheaper but it still wont be "A real R"

Fully agree with all the points above, traded in my GT for an R last week and it's amazing.
