No you've not  ..... Just cos you are missing out ;)

Seriously...... Turbo Waste Gate Actuating Rod is sticking at the hinge on the turbo body end.

Known 122PS problem. Will need a new turbo unit to solve.

Its the hinge I've indicated in the orange circle where the Actuator Rod is sticking. Simple as that.

If you have VCDS, then you may have one of the following fault codes:

00564 - Boost Pressure Control - Limit exceeded
or
00565 - Boost Pressure Control - Below Limit

One of these will confirm it as the Wastegate not working correctly due to the sticking rod/wastegate arm.

Don't think Coil Packs or Spark Plugs would cause the problem, they would affect much broader rpm range.

Having the same trouble misfires etc took it too dealers and after a full day of examination they decided it needs a new turbo unit (previously mentioned) but again there was no fault codes or engine warning lights....

booked in for thursday, so will see how the new turbo goes i guess.. :)

stuttering 122

Post by juniorbeep »

Hi all, I wonder if I could ask your opinions... I believe my 122 has become more "laggy" lately. I find a flat spot around 3000rpm and pretty sure I've experienced a "fluttering" of acceleration where I put my foot down car speeds up, drops back, speeds up, drops back almost as if i was feathering the accelerator. The trouble is you start to become a bit paranoid so just wondering if anyone recognises these symptoms etc what people would suggest i do? Oh my car is 25k miles about 2 years old.

cheers

Reason: As above, Turbo actuator rod hinge is sticking.

ironically I just had mine serviced nothing found at the time but problems only occurred after the service. Seems a bit better this week. Not so laggy. Now can't work out if there is a problem or not.

Not by any chance had an engine ECU update? They could have disturbed the lambda settings, so its taken a week to settle down which is not an unusual settling time for the ECU to correct the stored lambda settings. But the 3,000 rpm you commented on would make it not the case.

The replacement turbo is not a part change/improvement. So....... No change to production either.

What about the valves N75 and N249? Would a fault in them result in similar fault codes (not necessarily similar behaviour).

In the condition of the sticking Actuating Rod, its a momentary mild condition which the driver can sense. But its not strong enough to trigger a fault code in all cases, hence is why the faults codes are not always present. N75 Boost Control Valve or N249 Turbo Recirculation Valve problems will be much more pronounced with those fault codes present, rather than just "maybe present". That is what distinguishes this problem from N75/N249 problems.
