Costs
Costs
Hi Guys,
Ok test drove the R at the weekend and im impressed, but what id like to know is, is there any crazy costs in running one ?
Insurance seems fairly reasonable from the quotes ive had is the servicing expensive ? do they drink fuel ? and what about general wear and tear items like tyres and brake pads etc....
Thanks in advance for you input

* Insurance - £700 with mods, pretty reasonable as im only 25
* Fuel - obviously depends how you drive. Had 42mpg when trying really hard, or mid 20s when having fun.
* Servicing - 3 year servicing for £250. Can't go wrong
* Tyres - I bought a new set of tyres when i bought my new wheels. Only done 7,000 miles total so plenty of life left in them
* Other costs - none so far. Mods are of course optional!
Overall very reasonable indeed.

Re: Costs
I reckon it's more reasonable than my old GTI - insurance is a few hundred quid less (oddly?), however fuel consumption is slightly up at the moment as the engine noise in the mid range is highly addictive

Re: Costs
Only had mine coming upto 2 months and has 1300 miles on the clock.
MPG for me doing town driving only (occasional dual carriage way) I can average 30 mpg if Im not having fun. drops to about 25 - 26 mpg if im having some fun.
I get between 280 and 310 miles to a tank and roughly about £68-£75 to fill it up on 99 Ron fuel depending on how low you let it get before you fill up.
I got 3 years free servicing with mine so may be worth trying to get that included.
My last 2 cars I have had have been a Nissan 350Z and a 2.0 Turbo SRI Astra and the 'R' is better than both on fuel.

Re: Costs
Well I've had mine since July 2011 and just had it's first service here in Poland (15000km). Over here I didn't get the same option with the service plan, but it was not so bad anyway: a quick check on the currency converter shows I paid around £130 for it!
I'm averaging around 24-33 mpg, depending on driving style at the time. Obviously it will be lower if in town all the time, but overall for a 2.0 litre turbo with 265bhp, not bad at all...
The only fault I have had with mine was that one of the DRL LED units packed up, but was replaced under warranty with no problems.
As for the tyres, I have 18's on mine and the cost of going to 19's will make a bigger dent in your wallet and probably make a harsher ride, but to each their own! The roads in Poland are generally worse than the UK so 18's are big enough for me

Re: Costs
Just replaced two front tyres @ 12000 miles. £380 for a pair of 19's. Insurance around £650. I have Service pack so this was taken care of. Since new I have averaged 26 mpg, but I do "drive it". 35 is achievable on a motorway run with the cruise on. It is a great all rounder, not sure where I will go next ?

Re: Costs
As with any new car, the big 'hidden' cost is depreciation. Expect it to be high on the R for the first year or two. Once the value of the car (to the first owner) drops below £20k, the depreciation curve should flatten. From a financial point of view, buying a nice used R makes more sense than buying new.
