Oil temperature MFD Display

Post by Cuprabob »

My 170 TDI went in for it's 2nd service this morning, however after the service I have lost the Oil Temperature Display. I've checked that it is ticked to be displayed within MFD settings but it's no longer listed as an option to be ticked / unticked.

Tried restoring factory settings but still not there.

Went back to dealer to ask if they updated the firmware or settings during the service and they say no. All they done was reset the service indicator. I actually believe them because all the data within Trip 2 was still stored and I'm sure that would be reset if it was updated.

Dealer is going to speak to VW on Monday but has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas?

Mine had its second long life service (36,000) a couple of weeks ago. Never noticed any MFD changes so just checked after reading your post. All okay here Cuprabob.

I wonder if the oil sump sensor (oil level & temperature) connector or the small wire loom has been knocked/pulled by the Tech. servicing the engine. The sump drain and its plug bolt are close by. The wrench may have caught it while loosening/tightening the sump bolt.

If that was the case, I would expect it not to give a value but just display "---------" like it does when it's below 50 degrees?

The oil temperature display has totally vanished as if it's been disabled.

Yes thats what the old MFA used to do but I looked at it and can't understand why. Just the off chance. If the sensor is no longer connected (pulled pin) then maybe the Highline Computer ignores the option. Its only a few minutes look under the front of the Scirocco to check.

There is nothing in the VCDS to control the Computer so as said.... on the off chance.

You looking for either:

- a pulled connection, so make sure the connector is fully home.
or
- there may be evidence of the outer ribbed covering over the small loom is pulled back off the connector back shell or its damaged somewhere along its length. It is this, a pin may have been pulled out of the connector body so even though the connection is fully home, the internal pin/socket will not be making connection.

If not this, then as said its an obscure problem.

When mine came out of the workshop a few weeks back (for the wastegate rattle issue), I had an "oil sensor" warning come up on the MFD when I collected the car.

Mine does not have the oil temperature display (being the red display), but I was told a connector was loose? I think more likely it was not connected at all, but that cured this particular issue. That does sound strange though Cuprabob, I am sure they will sort it out though.

Just to close this off it would seem the tech who reset the service indicator accidentally removed the function. Now sorted :-)

As I said in my post above the garage reinstated it after being accidentally removed when resetting the service counter.

Double check in the display options menu that the box is ticked for "oil temperature"

Have you previously been able to view the oil temperature in the MFD? The reason I ask is that I didn't think the 140 version displayed the oil temp as standard.

1 - oli levl sensor must have oild temp sensor too
2- enable in cluster Adaptaion - oli level sensor connected to cluster
3 - old cluster SW not show oil temp - only high sw
4- oil temp show after 60degree

OK, so I need to take it back in service. Thanks.
I have no option to be ticked, it's gone although in the past it was. I think it disappeared one month ago ...
