Weird missfire story
Hello guys...
Two months ago i had a turbo failure and service told me to drive the car until they brought me a new turbo.
Shouldnt have accepted this though cause i think it was the beginning of all my problems.
After driving for two weeks only with the supercharger and all sorts of kicking and missfiring the turbo was repaired by the waterpump had already been damaged.
So now we go to the missfiring issue. I had the car for 2 weeks with a new turbo and a faulty water pump and had noticed some missfired and the lamp on the dash comimg on for about 20 seconds. Missfiring almost always occured at 4 to 5 rpm. Usually i could notice it on the 5th gear at same rev.
I now have my water pump fixed but missfiring occurs some times agaim with load and usually on fifth gear
Also they havent erased the waterpump fault codes when they were done.
Can this be the reason for the continuation of the missfires?
HELP!

Would not think so. Without knowing what they are, its hard to say. Please post the fault codes.thelefth wrote:Also they havent erased the waterpump fault codes when they were done.

Weird missfire story
Sounds like coil packs, but.....
What happened to the turbo?? No metal left in the engine??
Codes will show what's in error, but I would get it into a dealers pronto!

You mean a metal from the turbo failure damaged the engine? Hope not!

Re: Weird missfire story
Clear the faults down if they are prior to the previous repair and drive until it misfires again and see what re-appears. Looks like the Coil Pack on No.3 cylinder is faulty. Re-appearing again will confirm.
If you are able to swap them around, swap No.3 Coil Pack to No.4 position and likewise 4 to No.3. (Easiest alternative Coil Pack to extract as 1 & 2 and more difficult to get out). If it travels to No.4, its definitely the Coil Pack. If it stays at No.3, then you may be looking at a piston failure or a faulty injector. Taking out the plug may give more clues as an injector may show up as a "fuel washed clean" electrode.

Weird missfire story
Sounds like cylinder 3 isn't happy - could be coil pack (at best)....
Worrying why he supercharger clutch is showing excessive wear - could have been compensating for the failed turbo....
Might be worth clearing the faults if you haven't already, then seeing what comes back.
It might have gone into a sort of limp mode, but I doubt it!
Coil pack really springs to mind - you could try moving the coil on cyl 3 to another cylinder - if youngest a misfire on the new cylinder, then that's it!

@thelefth
Its a 2009 1.4 160PS??
Did you have any misfires problems before 24s4 Engine ECU update was done? Engine ECU software update 24s4, probably done sometime around September 2010 - January 2011? (I notice the ECU is current with the latest VW ECU software.)

Re: Weird missfire story
RW!:
I guess you are right.
But the latest missfire recording happened after the water pump repair.
Shall i erase it and wait for the next one?
Also i never had missfire before turbo replacement
mat:
I was running for 3 weeks with no turbo and water pump failed cause of that i think.
This fault wasnt erased after they repaired water pump.
Missfire recording though appear the day after i left the service.
Also RW1 missfires started after turbo fix but with a damaged water pump.
Hope i didnt get you guys confused.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Yes, and see what re-appears. Then either dealers with new faults logged or do what I wrote above with coil swap and spark plug examination.RW1 wrote:Clear the faults down if they are prior to the previous repair and drive until it misfires again and see what re-appears. If there is damage to No.3 piston, only a borescope inspection will determine or the cylinder head off to look at the piston crowns and rear half of the cylinder wall for scoring.
Remember, fault codes are only a guide. With these misfires on the 1.4, a misfire may be recorded but the cause may be one of several possibilites. The last one I did was an injector poor spray pattern.

OK RW1 thanks a lot man.
Coil pack no3 is the third one starting left side looking at the engine right?

That does not sounds right or you've confused me with your lefts and rights ...... just to be sure, fuse box end by the gearbox is No.4. Windscreen washer bottle end is No.1.thelefth wrote:OK RW1 thanks a lot man.
