Clutch failure

Post by clflangan »

Just wondered if anyone has had clutch trouble?

I have a July 2009 registered 2.0TDI 140bhp with 106,000km on the clock, couldn't get it into gear at all today when about to go on motorway, looks like a clutch issue. Awaiting diagnostics, have already had to replace a throttle valve last year (€550), so am a little fed-up....!

Is it time to get rid of it and change back to my trusty Skoda which never let me down...?

Cracked Pressure Plate

Post by clflangan »

An update to my clutch failure problem in a July 2009 registered 2.0TDI 140bhp Scirocco with 106,000km on clock..

Told today that the pressure plate is cracked, and will need new flywheel and pressure plate, to the tune of €1100 (including parts/VAT/labour). Was also told that this is a common problem in VW/Audi group, although I drove Skodas (presumably with Golf engine) for 5 years with no problems...

Would value advice re causes of this, and whether it is worth persisting with the car that has already needed a new throttle valve at Xmas (€560) and now a new clutch, despite being regularly serviced and maintained, and only 2yrs and 9 months old....

Thanks!

Surely it's still under manufacturers warranty? Or is a clutch not covered?

Cars in Europe normally don't get the 3rd year dealer warranty like UK cars do.

Also, even if it was in the UK it would be over the 60k mile limit that the 3rd year dealer warranty covers. It would have to be within the first 2 years which are unlimited mileage
