Scirocco Valuation

Post by albertz33 »

My Roc just had its second long life service, ive noticed from the book that it appears they havent change the oil, is this normal?

Anyhoo, i also had the car valued ( they asked me ) Its a Viper green GT spec 2.0 Tsi 58 Plate '09 reg, with 27K on the clock, excellent condition with only extras being DAB radio and Dynaudio, they valued it at £12,250,..thats what they would pay to buy it from me.

Im selling it next month, but to be honest i expested another £1K on that price! Are these models selling?? Has anyone else had a valuation from VW?

I am not on long life servicing but I would say it is NOT normal if the oil has not been changed, unless it is a simple omission in the book. I would check the oil and I normally look at he filter to ensure it looks new and clean.

That £12,250 does sound a bit low to me, like yourself I would have expected £13,500 at a minimum, mine is an 09 plate, I would expect £15,500 if I was to p/x, maybe wishful thinking on my part. I would suggest the dealer can be pushed further on their offer.

maybe the valuation was low because im not part exchanging, im locked into a company car scheme, the second hand market seems dead!

I will give the oil a visual, they have ticked the 'long life oil' option, but ticked 'no' in the oil change box, maybe a mistake like you said.

Sold my 58 plate for £15000 a couple of months back with 40k on the clock. Did have a few extras more, was black and sold it privately though. Dealer will look to make 20% on reselling yours. My advice would be to sell it privately or be prepared to take a hit selling it to the dealer.

You're the third Scirocco owner I've heard of recently who's had trouble selling or has been offered a lowish price.
One thing they all have in common ........... they all have Vipers !
That's the trouble with spectacular coloured cars. Not many peoples cup of tea.

Everyone is skint or keeping hold of their money. £12250 isn't that bad a price for "we'll buy it off you" - how does that compare to "webuyanycar.com"? If you were part ex-ing then i'd expect £14k. They will almost certainly offer you less to buy it off you than part ex, as they're making a profit on 2 cars when sold. Does the colour have a bearing on what they're offering you? My dealer warned me away from Viper for resale price reasons.

I suspect the easiest ones to sell are White (while it remains in fashion for all cars, even though it suits the Roc), Rising Blue and Black, with the hardest to shift being Red (2 tone with the bumpers is very noticeable and it's not as bright a red as Flash or Tornado ), Bown Oak/Sumatra and Viper Green.

My local VW dealership (and maybe yours too Albertz) tries to shaft you by quoting GAP book price forpart ex which is usually considerably lower than Glass' or Parkers.

They'll have that up for a minimum of £16k on the forecourt.

2011-2013 - Rising Blue 170GT

2005-2007 - Black Pearl Golf 140TDI GT

Don't go any where near 'We buy any car'. They really stuffed my son when he had to sell his Renault Clio 172 because of redundancy.

Was in at my local dealer last week and they offered me £12k on my 09 plate 1.4 TSi 160 in part ex. Classed as in "Clean" condition I thought it wasn't too bad as that meant it had held 60% of its value over almost 3 years.
Went on Webuyanycar.com later and they offered the same - although they'd probably start knocking bits off when you take it to them.
So on reflection the dealer wasn't giving me anything against a new car

im new around here, but im looking for a roc.

is there no classified section?

im suprised owner dont just list their cars in there at decent price if they are keen to sell, rather than let the dealers have them.

keeps the cherished cars in a 'community' too

That's one of the reasons I like contract hire (apart from the low monthly payments - compared to hp, and not having to find a deposit) - you can choose whatever spec you like, knowing that getting rid of it will not be your problem. My last three cars have been colours that I might not have chosen if I'd had half an eye on selling them again.

How do you mean 'a deal'? - I'm quite happy with my rentals - zero deposit, £347 a month (36 months) for the car as specced to the right. I don't think it was a 'deal' though.

Yeah but what you pay over the 3 years is dependant upon factors such as final mileage, condition, desirable extras and not least colour.
It might not be your problem getting rid of it but you'll find there's a hidden cost somewhere in the deal if you've got a hard to sell colour.

When I get the quotes all they ask is metallic or solid, no particular colour specified. Yes you have to return it in good condition, but I think the average Scirocco owner would keep their car way above the standard they expect - if you look at what they specify, it could actually be what I would term scruffy. Yes you do pay for extras, but no more than they would load hp payments. Been doing it for 14 years now and more than happy with the freedom it gives me and the fact I never have a lump sum tied up in the car - what you're doing in effect is financing the depreciation.
