To buy or not to buy....

Post by Jon78 »

Hi all I'm new here and would like some advice pls, I've been to test drive a 2.0 gt 170 diesel and it looks and drives great, candy white ,dsg, pan roof,leather,19inch vw alloys,59 plate with 29k however it's got 4 previous owners and although 1of which was vw ( it was a demonstor) can't understand why it's had 3other owners in 2 1/2 years. What do you think? Would it put you off? Thanks Jon.

Is all the paperwork in order? Is the car straight and in good nick? If the car is sound, then I don't think it would put me off to be honest.

Could be a multitude of reasons, too expensive for them to run, not a suitable car and so on. Like I said, as long as the car was cushty and checked out and all the paperwork is 100% then it wouldn't put me off.

A lot of money if you have doubts. They`ll be always another car around the corner. Don`t think this is the last one ever.

ex demo and 3 owners!!! :( its a lot of money to find out why, if you have any doubts, i say keep your money in your pocket, there are quite a lot of one owner cars that will be coming on the market, as the current owners upgrade to a new car after 3 years. when you really see the one, you will not have to ask honest.

Yes - agreed, that would put me off to be honest. 3 previous owners in 2 1/2 years is a lot, even if the paperwork checks out. I would also be inclined to look elsewhere.

I've not kept any of my last 3 cars more than 6 months for no other reason than I fancied a change. It's coming up 2 years from the Scirocco now so that says quite a lot about the car though I have found myself venturing on Autotrader more and more lately.

I guess a lot depends on how long you plan on keeping the car yourself. As mentioned if you're not 100% happy in your head then look else where.

I Agree, there are plenty of roccos out there, I would pass on this one, u clearly have doubts so it's not worth the worry, your right rocco is just round the corner.

I suppose its who you are buying the car from? I would only buy cars from approved dealerships which generally gives me peace of mind, if it is, then I wouldn't think there is anything to be concerned about. I concur with other replies in that there are probably others rocs out there with probably less mileage but the spec you describe is not something you come across that often. You will have to decide whether you feel its important to have these extras. If they aren't, keep looking, there's plenty around.

The trouble is there are not that many 2.0 gt 170 dsg anywhere especially not local, it's from a non franchise dealer but is still under vw warranty, I have telephoned the garage that has previously serviced the car and they report no problems ,the extras really ate a must to be honest also the cars up at £16999 ??

Its all very tempting and it does look like a judgement call on your part. I bought mine about a week ago simply because the car I sourced had only done 900 miles and is a year old next month. I took a hit on my previous car in p/x but I just had to have the car as I couldn't find any other with that kind of mileage, which was important. So I know how you feel. I don't think I would get too hung up about the previous owners, to banish doubt you could always get the AA or somebody similar to give it the once over to give you some peace of mind?

I wouldn't buy a car that young with that many owners, probably got a stubborn issue that none of the owners could get easily fixed. (could be something like a nasty rattle dealers have failed to fix, might not sound much but could be enough to make people switch)
