Can't say the new nose design does it for me either, looks terrible .
Real shame BBC is buggered losing 50% of the races I don't have Sky!

Merc are the last of the big boys to show. Still nothing from HRT and Marussia. I'll be amazed if they do they whole season.

I thought aero parts like on that Merc were banned. They coming back with a vengeance!
Re: 2012 F1 topic
has to be said the nose rules mean some hideous cars on the grid, maclaren just looks stunning in comparison

Re: 2012 F1 topic
I get the distinct feeling, one of those teams won't last the season and will be amazingly off the pace.
I just don't get why they don't show up and put more into testing. It's erm... limited already. What the hell don't these teams seem to learn.
On the flipside, Caterham will hopefully make a giant leap this year.

Re: 2012 F1 topic
Yeah I wouldn't mind betting Marussia and HRT won't make the 107% limit at Australia. Last year Virgin Racing made it in by about half a second but HRT were 1-2s off and weren't allowed to start.
Marussia look like they might have a slightly better chance of moving forward as they have Pat Symonds (ex of Renault) running the place but HRT look dead in the water.
I'd love Caterham to get a point this season and as they now have KERS I think they're in with a shout of that.

Rule/Technical Changes
- Ban on exhaust gases being used to blow over aerodynamic devices
- Changes to the nose height for safety reasons. The pre-2012 regulations allow the nose to be as high as 62.5 centimetres (24.6 in) above ground, but the revisions to the sporting code lower the maximum allowable height to 55 centimetres (22 in) 150mm ahead of the front bulkhead.
- Pitlane speed limit reduced from 100kph to 60kph ***TBC***
- Helium powered wheel nut air guns banned.
- In season test at Mugello on May 1st
- All lapped traffic under the safety car to be released from the queue before the car returns to pit lane, allowing the drivers to unlap themselves and to ensure a clean re-start.
- Drivers will not be permitted to leave the confines of the circuit without a justifiable reason, following a spate of incidents in 2011 when drivers were sighted using access roads around the circuit to shorten their reconnaissance and in-laps in order to preserve their fuel and tyres.
- Drivers will not be allowed to return to the normal racing line should they choose a defensive line going into a corner.
- Races will have a maximum four-hour time limit to prevent the indefinite suspension of a race.
- Any driver in the pit lane when a race is suspended will be permitted to return to the circuit and take up the position on the grid that they were running in at the time of the suspension.

Bit of a mixed bag in friday praccy due to wet/dry conditions.
But at least it looks like Red Bull aren't running away with it and Merc have stepped up.

Re: 2012 F1 topic
Great qually session.
Laughed when kimi didn't make it in. Caterham are well clear of marussia but I'm surprised they didn't get closer to the guys ahead. Also a bit disappointed with FI.
But the race at the front looks epic. Merc are right up there, red bull are struggling, mclaren are better and ferrari are a joke And Grosjean!

Re: 2012 F1 topic
Great opening race.
Monster start from Rosberg but as usual with the Merc's they couldn't quite do it in the race although Schumacher was on for a reasonable finish.
Great win for Button. Vettel got really lucky with the safety car and as a result Hamilton looked like someone just killed his dog, but it was a decent enough result for him. Alonso drove well in a terrible car, Massa quite the opposite. Good to see a positive drive from Sauber and Williams as well although Maldonado was unlucky not to get the finish he deserved. He'd have scored more points than Williams got all season if he hadn't binned it. Brilliant action on the last lap too and good thinking from Di Resta to pounce for the last point.
Kimi got lucky with a few people going out, Grosjean was a bit unlucky with the tap from (I think) Maldonado which broke his suspension/steering. He deserved a bit more than that from his qually effort. Bit disappointed in Caterham with two DNFs but it looks like Heikki had no KERS and then his steering arm started to undo itself so hopefully they'll sort that for the next race as he was in 14th at one point. And well done to Marussia for getting both cars to the end!
Sky had the same feed as the BBC but the commentary from Crofty and Brundle was very good I thought. Maybe not enough post race analysis, especially with so many incidents. No adverts in the qually or race either, just before and after so well done for not missing anything with that.
