I've done about 21 000 miles in my Scirocco (122PS BlueMotion Tech) and I'm averaging 40 mpg or so. However, the consumption for a full tank (or a single trip) varies quite a lot depending on the type of driving - short trips in urban areas during winter can get you figures as low as 25 mpg whereas steady driving at about 62 mph can get you close to 50 mpg - so my figures aren't a good reference point unless you're driving in similar conditions and doing similar trips. I'm not sure you should compare your Scirocco with the diesel Corsa, either. A diesel will give better mpg more consistently, whereas the mpg a petrol engine gives depends a lot on how it's driven. Also, I'm guessing the Corsa is lighter than the Scirocco, which gives it a clear advantage in urban areas (where petrol engines tend to be thirsty).

Anyways, like trix said, give it some time and see if the consumption settles to a more pleasing level. If it still seems to high after properly running the car in, you can always contact your dealer to see if can be sorted out.

#RoccoScientist, also thanks for your advice mate, appreiciate it, what sort of revs are you shifting at? yeah i understand your wright in that thinking. I shouldn't really compare it to a diesel corsa, my bad. but hopefully i should be abled to run it in, do you have any ideas on the best way to do this? at about a steady 70mph im getting 33mpg ish, depending on conditions like you say, at a steady 60 - 65mph i do get around 45mpg.

You have a shifting indicator for economical consumption on display, use that and you will see then....

Not sure if this is truly the best way, but I ran my engine in trying to follow these guidelines:

-Don't drive using only low rpms
-Don't rev the engine to the red line (especially when the engine is cold)
-Give the engine a comprehensive workout i.e. drive it both in urban areas and motorways so that it's exposed to different kinds of use
-Gradually increase the highest rpm you rev the engine to as you get more kilometers "under your belt"

In practice this meant that for the first 1000 km or so, I tried to avoid going over 3500 rpm, but on the other hand I tried from time to time to use much of that rev range when accelerating. For the next 500 km I raised the limit to 4000 rpm, then 4500 rpm for the next 500 km, then 5000 rpm and so on. Of course, the engine isn't "fully" run in until after 10 000 - 20 000 km, but after about 3500 rpm I "could" rev the engine to the redline. I have to admit that I didn't stick to the game plan 100%, but these were the general guidelines I tried to follow.

It's hard to say if this was a good way of running the engine in or not, since I would need an exact replica of my car that has been run in in a different way to compare the results. In the end, no two engines are exactly the same and thus they may have small differences in power outputs, reliability and consumption.
what sort of revs are you shifting at?
When accelerating to the desired speed in urban areas, I think I usually shift up between 2000 and 3000 rpm. When accelerating to higher speeds on e.g. motorways, I tend to shift up at higher revs like 4000 rpm, although I don't really think about the revs that much. The main idea is to accelerate to the desired speed briskly (but not full-throttle) and then shift down so that the revs are as low as possible. In practice I shift to 4th when doing a steady 40 km/h, to 5th when doing 50 km/h and to 6th when doing 60 km/h. This keeps the revs at about 1200 rpm, which is enough for keeping up speed in most conditions.

I know it's sometimes a hard thing to admit when you've bought something as expensive as a car, but does anyone regret buying the 122 for any reason? I don't wanna get one and regret it a few months down the line, as my next car I am hoping to keep for a good 4-5yrs.

I wish it had a bit more power but i cant moan i'm 19 i have plenty of time for fast cars!

No regrets here. It was either the basic 160 PS version or the 122 PS version with options and I feel like I made the right choice. Furthermore, I doubt I'd be happier with any other car I could've bought for the same price. I'm not saying I wouldn't like more power, but I would probably like more power even if I had the 160 PS version. Plus, I could always remap my 122 PS version if I really wanted to...

My scirocco isn't run in yet i don't reckon. As Turbo only kicks in at random times. weird or meant to be like this? i rev it to 3000 sometimes 4000 can't really say i feel anything? my friend has a scirocco 122ps and his his pretty quick must i say the least. not remapped

122PS's suffer from stiff & sticking Wastegate opening & closing. Its a known problem. Visit to the dealers. :nod:
Solution is to replace the Turbocharger unit.

The cars now done 2000 Miles on the clock. Sometimes i do feel it and it is a machine. But 90% of the time i can't feel it. Is this due to the amount of miles done on my Rocco?

Sounds like you need a visit to the dealership. Modern engines don't need running in as such, if it's not right after 2000 miles it isn't about to change anytime soon.

Do you feel it's fast enough to be fun, or just fast enough to get by?

Fast enough to get by, mostly. Of course there's fun to be had in the sense that you can squeeze everything you can from the engine way more often than you could if you were driving a properly fast car. ;) And you can still carry the same amount of speed into bends as in the 2.0 TSI, of course (possibly more, since the 122 PS version is lighter).

I don't think there are any 'duds' in the Scirocco range; it's a matter of personal taste + budget. I think either the 1.4 TSI 160 and the 2.0 TSI are the 'best buys' - personally not keen on diesel and the R depreciates too much. There is a place for a base 1.4 TSI in the range which will look and handle very much the same as the dearer versions.

as the 122hp is classed as the basic model in the range, it will allways get the but end of the jib remark. as though it is some how lacking, this car sits very well to do the job it was intended to do. it takes away the un-needed extras and is priced to complete with other brands. therefor the budget buyer can get a really lovely car for their money. it drives very nicely and the comfort is excellent after all it carries all the basic running gear as the more costly models. so if you dont mind not being able to change the ride from comfort to sport and just leave it in the middle which i think most drivers would do anyway, and accept that its not going to shove you back in the seat with force :faint: as with the bigger engines, when you accelerate but it is still a pleasing drive. and quite able to keep up with the legal motaway traffic. the one thing it fails a bit on is the mpg which should have been nearer the claimed mls. perhaps this will happen with the new engine upgrades. being on motability i could quite easily with a bigger advance payment and no extra monthy payment got a faster model but settled for the 122hp as it was all i needed. :clap:
