'R' enquiry

Post by skippy »

Not that I am seriously looking, but I thought I would contact my dealer earlier in the week about a test drive in an 'R' they have for sale. I did only send an email enquiry and did not chase it down but I am still waiting for a response.

It does surprise me in this day and age that it seems there is not even enough interest in them replying to me. I won't chase it but I would not mind a drive of one sometime just to see how they compare to the standard model.

I have emailed the Leicester VW dealer 3 time with a query on a Golf R but they haven't answered any of my mails LOL, i guess the answer is for me to ring them but dont have the time at the moment and i find haggling via email far easier.

yes - its very frustrating Shaun, I do sometimes wonder whether they just don't bother with desirable models, knowing full well it is likely to sell very easily. Maybe I will enquire about a used Fox and see if I get a response!

From personal experience of running my own business email enquiries tend to be lower priority because the conversion rate is very low. If someone is genuinely interested they will call up treating the enquiry with higher priority themselves.

I have learnt this the hard way in being really helpful to email enquiries but with no take up. I do reply to all enquiries recommending they call me to speak on the phone. This tends to filter out the type of client who has emailed several people at once or is not serious.

I do think it's bad there has been no reply to your emails what do ever.

Over a 3 month period in 2011 I made 4 calls to my local dealer and also called-in to speak to them about the finance before ordering an R. I'd already bought a brand new GT off them 2 and a half years earlier so they knew I wasn't a time waster. The response I got was "wait for a while and we'll give you a call beginning of October in case there's any good deals happening then". I waited and waited before calling them and being fobbed off once again. Eventually I ended up buying an R from a different dealer who was more than willing to take the order!

I couldn't belive that a customer wanting to order a £32,000 car in this current climate could be fobbed off so blatantly. Oh well, their loss I guess!

Yes - that is my feeling Jake, you are there willing to buy a £32k car which should be an exciting experience, yet you just get fobbed off or ignored. I bought my Rocco from an alternative dealer for similar reasons to yourself, I was booked in for a test drive yet salesmen were going here there and everywhere but not in my direction. This was just after Christmas (2008) when I thought I may stand a chance of getting their attention.

Take your point (tootiefrutie) about the email, I can believe the conversion rate is low, mine was one of those buttons which said "Enquire about this vehicle" which takes you to a form to complete details. Mind you, probably pointless those enquiry facilities on websites being there if the chances are that they will be ignored anyway. :(
