Anyone got Sky talk and broadband? Thinking of switching
I want to get the F1 channel so i was looking at adding Sky Sports to my basic deal with them. In doing that the phone and broadband packages caught my eye. A bit of quick maths and I could be £60 a year better off putting those on to Sky instead of BT and O2 respectively.
Anyone got Sky for those? Any issues?

I've got broadband, phone and line rental with Sky. I've never had any issues and they all work fine. I thought the F1 channel was free with HD and you didn't need sky sports???

I'm not too fussed in HD and that's another £10/m anyway so I might as well pay £20/m and get the sports channels instead.saleshark wrote:I've got broadband, phone and line rental with Sky. Re: Anyone got Sky talk and broadband? Thinking of switching
Sky broadband was ok for me, but my exchange suffered a lot of contention at peak times (I.e Sky have a lot of customers hammering their connections in my area). I switched to O2 and things are a lot better. You won't know contention until you get on it. Generally unlimited cheap packages attract the mega downloaders!
Re: Anyone got Sky talk and broadband? Thinking of switching
Sky has been fine for me for a few years. 17 meg connection but I'm close to the exchange.

I'm currently thinking about dropping BT and add the BB/phone to my current sky pack.
Would save about £150 per year but am worried about the contention issue as my iPhone wifi suggests quite a few houses around me are on sky BB too!!!

I have the bb, line rental and calls package but can't say I'm that impressed. Will be swapping to orange shortly as it's cheaper and connection and speed seems better round here.

Check your telephone exchange on;
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This will give you a list of LLU providers (this means the company puts its own equipment in the exchange rather than wholesaling from BT).
Pick an LLU provider which is not the absolute cheapest for best chance of avoiding the riff raff. O2 / Be are pretty good in the sense that most people default to Sky first (O2 use Be's network). Also, if you are an O2 mobile customer you get £5 / month off their standard rates (they were doing 6 months free plus a b/g/n router when I signed up). Check Quidco too - they had some cashback deals which meant you got the whole 12 months free and even made some money I think!

Think I'll wait for Infinity to arrive in next few months and see how that goes. Rather pay bit more for better BB surfing!!

I signed up for the switch today. Needless to say O2 suddenly offered me a better deal when I asked for my MAC code but it was only £1 a month better. It also wasn't a deal on their web site. If it had been I might have stayed. Too late guys, you could have given me that all along.

I called up BT earlier to find out about infinity roll out in my area - answered my query no probs been first class really every time I've called them so I might just stay with BT. Can't be doing with crap service or CS. Rather pay a bit more!

Re: Anyone got Sky talk and broadband? Thinking of switching
I recently left Sky Boadband due to the fact they they try and restrict you to using their own modem. Even PC World have signs up in store now asking you to consult a member of staff before purchasing a new wireless modem.
Personally I bought a new dual band router only to find Sky have the broadband all locked down with password protection. I did find a way round this eventually but had already started the transfer procedure by then anyway.
