Orange spots... Iron particles?

Post by sparki »

I have a candy white roc and its covered in tiny orange spots which I am presuming are iron particles.

I would like to remove these but am unsure of the best product. the car isn't even 6 months old so I didn't really want to take it for a detail yet.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

I've had some good experiences with IronX, might be worth a look

Yup, IronX does the trick. Spray on, leave for 20 mins, get the purple tad poles, then wash off with car shampoo & water mix as normal.

Brake particle filings. Also been getting them off the trains at the back of the works as they slow down for the station next door since I moved parking spots. Needless to say I've shifted back to my old spot now the yard is cleared.

Don't know why it shows on this Scirocco. My previous white Mk2 never had the problem. Has to be something to do with the clear top coat lacquer VW use.

Please don't leave iron x for 20 minutes on your car. It has a lot of active ingredients and much more concentrated that other similar products. Yes you can leave wolfs de ironizer for that amount of time but not iron x ;)

In my view iron x is a better cleaner, just make sure you rinse off after 4-5 mins

I use this

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/p ... _soft.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Great stuff, gets rid of all deposits and leaves paintwork smooth as glass.

You can use water as a lubricant too which is a bonus.

Point taken, but I don't read the Iron-X bottle's instructions that way.......

The only precautions from CarPro appear to be not in direct sunlight, hot surfaces and not allowed to dry.

Would never do polishing/waxing/detailing on a sunny day, particularly hot. Do all mine on dull damp days or on sunny days in the late afternoon 4pm onwards when the sun is less powerfull & the dew starts to form.

IRON-X:
"Shake well, spray on the surface, rub it in with damp sponge thoroughly, wait 5 mins while contaminants change its color to purpel / red, wipe off with damp soft sponge. Don’t let the Iron X dry completely on surface!"

CarPro own website: http://cquartz.com/index.php?option=com ... t&catid=37" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
To quote the first sentence - "safe for use on all car surfaces and will not deteriorate clear coats". Scirocco Mk3's paint surfaces all have clear top coats, whether it be metallic colour, solid colour or pearlescent black.

What I found is that at 5 mins, the job isn't done. Conversion of iron filing contaminants lasts for about 15 minutes. In that time, the IRON-X remains a wet gel on the surface without drying (dull day).

I'm more inclined to think, the 5 minutes is a time for general useage to allow the chemicals to work the iron particles. At 20 mins, it has definitely finished convertng & removing the iron filings and presumably the other contaminants it finds.

http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/pro ... ron-x.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Here they write about waiting 5 minutes, then agitating. FAQ's doesn't show it to be an issue, even when dried on.

Be interested to know what damaged to paintwork has occurred through mis-use from your knowledge.
If it is definitely a chemical for only 5 minutes, it shouldn't be used anywhere near a car's paintwork! CarPro's statements are not stating that to be the case.

I have bought a clay bar and ironX for using around april may or whenever the better weather starts. :shrug:

Do they both just do the same job?

Read the about the clay in the second link (AutoGeeks) in my last post. Its explained there in their tests. Suggests claying is not effective at removing iron filings as a pass with IRON-X removed a lot afterwards. Where as with IRON-X only first, then a second pass of IRON-X removed little more.
