1.4 TSI 160 hp (Twincharged) - supercharger belt cut

Post by egwaytos »

Hello guys,

It took me a while to report this, but I finally found the time to share it with you. After six months of owning the twincharged 1.4 scirocco, I got the catalyst warning lamp on. Prior to the lamp going on, I was feeling the car to be really slow at low revs (where the supercharger engages)...and then the indicator came on.

After taking it to the authorized service point, what they found was that the supercharger belt got cut...! Imagine my surprise when I heard them report this! The car was 6 months old and I was really careful with it, did not push it, at least not too many times :-)

The question is: Has this happened to anyone else?
Additionally, taking this opportunity I would also like to say that I did not manage to get the low consumption that volkswagen is stating. At best, I get 10-15 km/litre

Thanks!

I think you can take it by no one piping up, that it is not common. Certainly not come across it nor is there any technical rectification warning about it.

Yeah that's about 6-9 miles/litre or 27 - 40 mpg in our money.

Well 27 - 40 mpg is around the same range I get for short urban journeys in the rush hour to longer trips down open roads.
Don't forget the claimed mpg by motor manufacturers should only be regarded as a theoretical maximum. You will rarely achieve that in real life under normal driving conditions.

Happy new year!

Thanks for your responses! I have to say that after a mixture of highway routes and urban movement I managed to get an overall average consumption of 8.8 km/l...
