Hello,

i am a Golf GTi driver from the Netherlands, 4 months ago i bought my third Gti in a row (1 x mk5, 2 x mk6)

driving my GTi is so much fun, DSG is awesome

but seeing the Scirocco makes me think that i made the wrong decision, The Scirocco is emotion.

I bought a mk6 GTi 5 doors because we have 2 kids.........thats the reason, but i keep thinking of the Rocco.
What i like to know is, are there a lot of Rocco drivers with kids and how do you think about kids in combination with the Rocco??

A GTi with 5 doors is the most practical solution at this stage in my live, but i can not get my eyes of a Rocco....

Went through the same thought process. The Roc is a Golf chassis, so leg room is identical. Headroom more limited, but no problem for kids. Access is similar to a 2door Golf, so, again, no issue for kids. The biggest isssue is the limited visibility, which can cause car sickness. Depends on the age of the kids. Mine are 12 and 13 and have no problems, but i wouldn't want to take them on a really long journey. If you just do day to day journeys, why compromise for the occasional long trip? Get the Roc (preferably with easy to wipe leather, just in case)!

I nearly got a five door Golf GTI or GTD because we have four kids. We are a two car family so the choice between Golf and Scirocco was not governed by the number of seats (5 versus 4).

I can easily get three into the Scirocco - we have child in an Isofix car seat, another on a booster cushion base and the oldest is big enough not to need extra stuff. The Isofix goes in the back quite easily and the only adjustment I have to make is to move the passenger seat forward to keep little shoes from marking the back of it.

No complaints about car sickness or headroom or dark rear windows.

If you want to switch from Golf to Scirocco, I don't think it would be a problem. Leather seats are a good idea for keeping cleaner - the cloth seats in our Touran are looking bad now......

can you imagine in future, everytime you see a Roc and thinking ...'if only i had...'.

life is too short for regrets. its time to break free from a Golf.

well my daughters 5'11 and my 14 year old son is over 6' and we have no problems running the Roc

but to be fair I also have a Touareg and an RS6 Avant

have to admit the rocco has been pretty practical car, in reality the only issue is shoe horning my parents in the back, which is the main reason we bought a 5 door GTI at the time as the sensible option

oddly i'm the other way (especially now car is back to standard form), our mk5 GTI has always tugged at the heart strings more hence ordering the ed35

My grandsons love the Scirocco, no complaints at all about the rear seats or view, although they do quarrel over who's going in the front when it's only me in the car, they darenot wind their grandmother up.

Having 2 kids doesn't mean you have to go down the 4 door route - since becoming a 2 kid family, my cars have been a Calibra, (a slight detour into 4 doors with a Xedos 6), an Alfra Romeo GTV, a Ford Cougar, a Mini, a Megane 225 and an Astra VXR before getting the Scirocco - my 2 daughters loved them all and much preferred dad having a cool car rather than a 4 door hatch/saloon like their friend's dads had, and now my granddaughter loves both the Scirocco and our Mini.

Style over practicality any day

And there hasn't been a more practical second car as a cop-out either - it's been a Morris Minor, a couple of Kas and a couple of Minis.

Well we've got two 'kids' - one is 6'6" & the other is 6'1" and they both fit in the back of the Roc, whenever they want a free meal out, so no problems there.

However, and this is just a personal thing, until they were old enough to have their own cars I ALWAYS went for a four door car. I've seen too many accidents, and the first one was enough, where the kids have been trapped in the back of a 2 door car. As I said it's a personal thing and there are obviously loads of families with 2 door cars - just wasn't for me I'm afraid.

Oh, n when the grand children come along the kids will be taking me out!
