MFD not retaining last setting
The MFD when I start up the car if it has been turned off for more than say 10 minutes always shows the speed alarm set up screen. My previous Scirocco always retained whatever you'd had set such as oil temp before turning off the ignition. If I turn off the ignition and turn it straight back on again this is the case, otherwise always back to speed alarm! I have set it just in case it wanted an input (never been an issue before) but this didn't make any difference. The VW service people seem to think it may be an R issue but I would have thought these were standard units across the range. Can I have some feed back please as to what other R owners units do to show to VW as their answer is that they are going to monitor other R units - but few and far inbetween!! Thanks.

Yep - tried them all! Makes no difference. It retains distance and consumption figures and such like when I scroll through them, so the memory is working, just not what screen it was left on.

I would try disconnecting the battery for a while and seeing what it does.

Re: MFD not retaining last setting
Be aware with the battery disconnected that there will be "funnies" on reconnection.
Two that come to mind....
- ESP light will be ON in the dash until you drive above 10+ mph in a straight line. The Steering Controller needs to re-input a signal to the ESP.
- The windows won't fully close. You will need to carry out a window reset by dropping each window and then closing again and continue to hold for a second in the up position on the door switch. Let go. Then demand the "up" again on the switch and hold for a few seconds.
- Others there will be some possibly besides the MFD itself, as all the car's controllers have lost power. Can't find anything about the engine ECU or DSG.

Yes, modern cars and their electronics! RW1, assuming you have the same unit in your car - it retains the setting you were last viewing? Just trying to make sure that mine is definitely the odd one out.

Re: MFD not retaining last setting
Yes it does retain and its a Highline MFD.
You have a fault. There's no notices on the R or other models about the loss.

Re: MFD not retaining last setting
Ok so I've had the reply from VW via the dealership regarding this. The official response is that this is a known issue with the 2.0 tsi motor though there have been no problems reported - ?! When the engine is turned off terminal 15 is switched off and as the vehicle cools then the oil temp is removed from the display. When the car is started again, the display then reverts to the speed warning display. This does not affect diesel powered cars. They would not let me have a copy of this so I had to write it down while I was there. They said they could do nothing about it now with that response from vw. I explained that I had asked others re this issue for their feedback but they would not budge. I have the ref for the official response but gather that customer support would simply back them up!! I have asked one of the mechanics there to see if he can follow this up with another branch with an R in for service or work - prob is of course not too many around.

Re: MFD not retaining last setting
Final update! Promise no more. When I got the car back from having other work done they had de-selected showing the speed limit setting from the mfd in the options, along with a few others. Surprise surprise it no longer reverts to it but stays at what ever it had been last set on - including oil temp. Mucked around with the display settings and as long as the speed one is de-selected all the others are fine. Why didn't I think of that.
