engine wash 1.4tsi ?

Post by Ashanl »

HI

Im planing to give my engine a wash this weekend, but before I do is there anything specific to the 1.4tsi motor that I need to cover/keep dry?
Reason I ask is that I've been to a few Dealerships here in S.A. who say they don't do engine washes on the 1.4tsi motor.

Yes, there are points to watch....

- The spark plugs/coil packs sit in deep recesses which will pool water. Although there are rubber seals, once in, liquid has nowhere to go. It can also pool possibly onto of the camshaft cover where the electrical feed wires run to the coils packs.

- The drive belts for waterpump/supercharger/alternator are exposed on the right side of the engine.

- Headlight rubber back covers securely on or they could fill with liquid.

- Engine bay fusebox on the left side.

- There is also a vent under the dual thermostat housing where the engine faces the airfilter & battery on the DSG. Its directly below the thermostat housing and is above/onto the DSG clutches. Not sure what holes/vents on the manual box but worth taping over tightly if they exist.

You'd be better off going round with a rag, soft toothbrush, some WD40 and 303 Products Aerospace Protectant to finish. And waxing with a duarble car wax like Collinite Super Doublecoat Auto Wax (No. 476s) on the underside of the bonnet lip to make it easy to clean in future.

Thanks for the quick response RW.

I think ill take your advice and stick to the safe route, its been working well so far,
and the Collinite and 303 combo work well, keeping the grime down to a light coating of dust.
I would also recommend Megs Quick interior detailer, works really well for those days when you just need a light cleaning.
