Bike/cycle carrier

Post by thedavidgreen »

Hi - does anyone know if there will be roof bars for the Scirocco so that i can carry my mountain bike? Or will there be a bike carrier to hang on the rear - or hopefully a generally available carrier will work?
Does anybody know or even better have a Scirocco and carried a mountain bike?
I'm hoping to find out soon as i should be picking my Scirocco up within the next month or so....
Thanks

Thanks for the link - do you know how much the roof bars are and are they quick and easy to fit? I know that some can be a right pain to fit...

Has anyone tried a bike carrier that you hang off the back of the car at all? - ie the ones you can get in Halfords???

I need to find out which is the best option.

Haven't tried one on the Scirocco but all the carriers i've seen that hang off the back of cars seem to be pretty be for scratching the paintwork where they hook on. Think the roof rack variety would probably be a safer bet.

I get my racing bikes in the boot with the seats down with no issues at all. All I need to do is drop the front when and I'm sorted.

I always make sure I use some dust sheets to protect the car.

i use a rack that hangs of the back, but i wrapped the feet in foam to protect the paintwork, so long as the straps are tight, and the rack doesnt move, no problem.

Thanks for all the info,
I have found that Thule have designed the Euro-click for the Scirocco,
It is a type of towbar specifically for towbar mounted racks, it cannot be used for towing.
You will find it on Thules Swedish website.
I have contacted the UK Distibutor who did not know anything about it in mid February, they said give them a phone mid March if i have not had any luck.

This Thule EuroClick sounds quite expensive - does anyone know how much it might cost?

I'm also thinking of buying a halfords rear-hanging carrier - anyone used tried one of these?

Hi Albertz33.
Dont suppose you could post a pic of the Bones attatched to the back of the Roc could you. Im really interested in this rack. I previously had a towbar mounted rack on my Eos and really miss the ease of use this provided.

The VW roof bars are the same part number as the MK5 golf ones. About £125 I think. I dont know how easy they are to fit though. I want some but am worried about scratching the paint.

Hi,
Spoke to the dealer on Monday, they checked the roof bar part number and told me they were not available in the UK. I have a set of roof bars from my MK5 Golf and the feet will not fit the Scirocco. Dealer said to keep an eye on the UK website for the new accessories brochure.
