Hi guys,
Am in the market for a VW, never own them before but have heard so much about it. I went to the showroom yesterday to test drive the Golf GTI (wanted to test drive the R, but they don't let ppl do that here), loved it, but would like to have a bit more power. The only cars in stock right now are the Scirocco 2.0T black and Golf R in red. I live in Hong Kong and the price of the cars are 26.8K and 34.6K pounds.
Questions:
1. If I get the stock 2.0T Scirocco, what types of mod do I need to get so it will performace like the R version? How much would that cost roughly? (I am not going to lower my car, nor am I going to change the rims)
2. How's the Golf R comapred to the Scirocco R?
Thanks.

Re: Scirocco 2.0T modified vs Golf R
2. Biggest difference between Golf R and Scirocco R is that the former is 4WD (Hladex) whereas the latter is FWD.
Based on my 5 years ownership of an R32 the 4WD can be very handy when it's raining and you're looking at getting teh power down, but it is a completely different experience and can be a bit numb in the dry.
You need to try both and buy the one that you prefer.

depends how modded the 2.0GT is in reality, when running map and springs on the GT the Golf R blew me away on how complete a package it was

Re: Scirocco 2.0T modified vs Golf R
In terms of modding a GT to R level you'd need:
- upgraded braking system, not only are the discs bigger but the overall system is higher performance. A basic front and rear disc, calliper and pads with new OEM parts would run to around £800
- sniffened springs and dampers, allow approx £1500 for the OEM setup
- remap e.g. Superchips, revo etc allow £500...
If you where to go for a more complete job of fitting the EA113 engine, turbo etc then you'd be looking at £5k+ for a new engine with all the accessories.
