I'm going to try if this can be enabled on a BlueMotion Tech. Scirocco. It's not possible (at least in Finland) to spec XDS for this model when ordering, so it will be even more interesting to see what happens. Btw, someone had the setting changed from 0 to 2 on his Seat Leon FR (2010) but couldn't change it back to its original value afterwards. Does anyone have any idea why?

I had the XDS enabled last night with some help. There were no problems and we could also switch between different values. Now running with the value set to 2. Did some testing on wet roads last night, and it seems that wheelspin now only occurs simultaneously on both sides or not at all. Of course, with just 122 PS under the hood, getting the wheels to spin at all takes some effort and thus the benefits of the XDS are purely theoretical most of the year. We'll see how the car feels when winter comes and the roads are covered with snow.

Just the 03 ABS Brakes Controller Auto-Scan section will do.

All done now :) thanks for that! What I initially ment was on byte 8 (I think it was?) there was no tick boxes for XDS, I enable it anyways by changing the code from "00000" to "001000" (again going from memory here just looked at the pics on page one) and then on adaptation block 36 XDS settins appeared so it was apparent it was active. When fr a twisty drive and wow I must say its another world well worth it, I mean I've driven a BMW 325i, Audi A5 and a Porsche 911 C4S (997) all round a track and this little 1.4TSi just got a whole load better!! :P

Obviously can't compete with mechanical LSD but I'm sure te £1200 odd investment in a Qualife system would be worth it.

I've just noticed a guy further up with a 2010 122bhp Rocco got this to work. But for me I can only get the XDS active tick box but not the part where I choose a number. I go into ADAPTATION and type in 36 but it just comes up error, even though XDS is ticked in the Long coding helper Byte 17, Bit 3.

Can anyone help here ?

scott.taylor, we had no such troubles and I've never used VAGCOM myself, so I can't really begin to guess why you're not able to choose how strongly XDS will intervene.

Now that we finally have lots of snow in Southern Finland, I can't really say I've noticed a big change since last year. The main reason for this is probably the fact that the Scirocco already has an electronic differential lock (EDS) as standard:

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/technology/ ... ntial-lock" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/154478 ... try1915056" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So, the XDS only really makes a difference above 25 mph and since I mostly drive in urban areas, it's usually the EDS that steps in if need be. On some rare occasions I have, however, been able to accelerate in a bend so that I've felt the car is about to understeer only to have it "decide" to keep the line I've chosen. Whether this is because of XDS or some other factor, I can't say. What I can say is that the limits of grip are still crossed over easily during winter even on winter tyres and with XDS. Use too much throttle mid-bend and you will push wide.

Can anyone help? I have activated XDS using the instructions listed further up the forum (ABS long coding, adaptations channel 36 etc) during the latest snowfall the car now seems totally useless in slippy conditions compared to last year when it was not activated, the car does have a dsg box which does not help matters, but I was wondering if I am missing something or are they all like this in the snow?

The XDS will not cause problems nor will it solve any below 25 mph, since the EDS is already taking care of things at those speeds. Are you running on summer tyres?

MIne's a 2.0 GT and I've run into the same problem as scott.taylor, followed all the steps and ticked the box to activate XDS, but when in adaptation, I couldn't choose the strength of the XDS. Any thoughts?

Is it correct that you CANNOT switch off ESP completely>?

Post by baderlfc »

I've read a couple of things about this.. surely it can't be true?

I would have thought it'd be do-able through VAGCOM or some sort of update through the dealer???

Apologies for bumping this thread, but can anyone explain why this isn't activated by default? I've a VCDS cable atm and been making a few changes, so I'm intrigued!

Cheers

The (front) brakes in the 122 PS version are smaller than in the 160 PS and 210 PS versions (which have the same brakes). Since XDS uses the brakes to limit understeer, it may lead to wear and tear that hasn't been accounted for in the specification of the standard breaks in the 122 PS. Also, it might make sense from a marketing aspect of not having the XDS as an official option for the "no go" version of the line-up, since it makes the slightly more expensive twincharged version more desirable to anyone even thinking about trackdays.
