Bluetooth and iphone "issue"

Post by dbeholder »

Hey everyone,

Got my Rocco a couple of days ago and have to say I'm in love with it. Except for one annoying little thing:

When I decided to throw in the premium bluetooth as extra, the dealer kindly explained that with it I would also be able to pair the ipod embedded on my iphone having full control of my music from the dashboard. But while it works flawlessly with the phone and phone list, it was a disappointment with the ipod. I can't see artists and song names on the dashboard, and can't change play lists, the only thing I can actually do is skip tracks. Other than that, the only way of doing something is by actually picking up the phone, which as you can imagine is starting to annoy me.

Is this how it's supposed to work? Did the dealer lie? At the moment it's pretty much working as it would with just and AUX cable, which is a little frustrating.

Also, I noticed that when I plug in the "media in" cable, the iphone appears as "device unsupported" on the dashboard. So I'm also not sure if I should expect that to happen.

Thanks for reading guys, and any info is well appreciated.

Hey dbe,

Congrats on your new car dude, I used my iphone 4 every day, just had to sis out the correct procedure. If you want songs to come up on the screen it will have to be plugged in on the media in cable. I think that the bluetooth on the iphone does not have the correct protocols to send music data to the head unit. Does it not come out on the head unit with the song on the media in function not aux. My phone always shows device unsupported when i connect it. Which iphone do you have and what head unit?

For music and bluetooth to work this is what i did:

Plug the phone in switch the car on wait for the bluetooth to connect.
Then go to the media in option on the head unit, while plugged in to the media cable go to the ipod app and you should hopefully see an icon that you can tap to change from vw bluetooth to dock connector.

hope it helps.

Hey pav, thanks dude! Your car looks great too ;)

I've got the RNS 510 head unit, and I'm pairing it with an iphone 4.
Followed your instructions, and got as far as tapping the little icon on the ipod. I have then 2 options VW bluetooth or the iphone itself (the iphone's loudspeaker), I see no option for dock connector. So far the media cable has only worked for charging my phone.

I'd REALLY like to find out if it's something I'm doing wrong, or the cable, or the head unit...

Thanks for the info anyway.

So I finally found out the issue is actually with the cable.
For anyone asking the same questions you can find the answer here " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; watch from 1:05

Thanks pav for putting me on the right path.

This was a great help, as I was getting fed up of the not getting any playback by media in, unless I disconnected and reconnected the iPhone.

The only point I would add is check that you have the volume turned up :)
