Fuel cleaner (Redex, Powerenhancer BG244 etc)

Post by Sanders83 »

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with fuel system cleaners. Alot of people have told me that some German car manufacturers use them as part of the service proceedure. Heading for 20,000 miles now and was thinking she deserves a treat.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

I'm afraid all I can find on the web is bad news about these products (e.g. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoe ... money.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) but if you're that keen I suppose you could always try a bottle and see what happens.
I tried some in the wife's diesel Golf and I can't say I saw any difference at all.

Cheers for the link Keith, that one didn't show up on Google. The BG244 is the one that claims to be used in dealer servicing and seems to have a lot of facts backing it up. I'm sure none of them work overnight but there must be one out there that's better than just using the odd tank of V-Power (which is much more expensive than regular round here). Next time I get a service I might ask the guy if they use any additives or his thoughts on them.

This seems fairly trustworthy. I'm due a service in 2000 miles so I'll ask the tech.

No need. The engine was designed for a long service life on on lowest quality pump fuel available, these products sell you the idea of huge carbon blockages and sticky injectors, this will not be an issue... dont waste your money, save it for a decent service when the next one is due and you will have no dramas.
