RNS 510 different versions.

Post by cornelce »

I was looking at purchasing the RNS 510 unit but on eBay whilst everyone claims they have the latest versions, all the units code differ. Hence wondering what is the latest version? Some say it's C with the LCD and star button, some say it's B, and others claim it's F (going backwards)?!

F seems to be the newest units coming from Continental, but other than that you should be looking for a C with LED screen and star button.
If you go for a C unit, I would stick with those with a firmware of 26xx/2720/2840 and avoid any claiming they have 3810/3970 and v7.1 maps as those are beta versions and were designed for D units through to F.

There are newer 7.2 maps available which are released and those would work with the 3810/3970 firmware.

ETA - check the HW numbers too, each version resets the HW number, so the latest C units will be HW50 or 52 and a F unit will be a low HW version.

Thanks for the detailed reply! This is an LCD version with a star button made on July 2011, map 7.1, HW-Version is HO4 and SW-Version is 3810 so it looks like it has a beta version on it!

I also found an F version but oh boy, is that thing expensive!!
