Hello All

Update 2.

Brighton VW have agreed to reimburse me for the wheel alignment........and they are paying for two new tyres.
Strange thing is I didnt even have to start a small war with them.
Got a reply from the nice sales lady who sold us the car and she agreed with what I had to say and it goes in wednesday morning.

Im a bit shocked realy, I was getting myself ready for a bit of a fight.

I think I may have been lucky on this one ( then agian, this is the 5th car weve had from them )

Thank you all for your answers

Don't suppose you had a printout of the geometry angles before and after? How far were the angles out by?

Mine has been into dealer this morning and I got the scripted "They all do that"... "It's the way it's setup" "We've had this before....blah blah bullshit. Thankfully they didn't have the car for a day just to tell me that.

there are issues with cars with similar floor plans and tyre where at the rear with the rears going out of shape (it feels like the wheels are out of balance) seen reports at varying mileages (ours was at 28k on rears seen reports of 10k) geometry was fine when checked, no such issues on roc, that said i am running a bit more camber these days so keeping an eye on things to see to what detriment on tyre wear

Rear Tyre Wear

Post by Gozzy »

Hi guys im just after a bit of help/advice, iv just bought a 2009 gt 2.0 tsi, excellet car excellent condition love it, the only slight concearn of mine is that iv noticed slight tyre wear on the inside of the rear tyres. Does the scirocco have rear tracking and could this be out slightly? Does this happen to anyone else? Thanks, look forward to the reply!

I've had the same problem with mine. About 6mm tread on outer of rear tyres down to next to nothing on insides. Car went in for service last week and I asked them to check it out. I was told that it would cost £37 to do the rear tracking and could have been caused by driving over pot holes. The service fella rung me later that day to tell me that the ' tyre specialist wanted to run a full 4 wheel computerised laser check with prinouts of all 4 wheel readings and that i could have a printout of all the camber angles etc before and after adjustment at a cost of about £70. on picking up the car i was given the printouts which showed 1 of the rear settings was 0.02 degrees out and the adjustments had been made. i argued that if only the 1 wheel was out and by just 0.02 of a degree then surely it wouldnt cause 6mm difference in wear between the inner and outer edges. He tried to fob me off with that it was a characteristic of the suspension fitted to the Scirocco. I was not happy with this explanation and said that I would pay it but if I did I would cancel my order for my new Scirocco due at the end of March as the car was obviously not suitable to be driven on British roads and therefore not fit for purpose and left the garage in a stinking mood. On arriving home I received a call from the after sales manager who was very apologetic and admitted that it had been a problem with some Sciroccos nationwide. He has scrapped the charge for the laser alignment and promised that I can drop the new car off with them for regular alignement checks when I take delivery of the new one. Hasnt totally eased my fears but at least he has promised to keep an eye on the new one.
