RCD 510 Bluetooth activation?

Post by Westfaliaman »

Hi.
Just purchased a 2010 GT TDI 140 with the factory fit RCD 510 media system, remote buttons on steering wheel including Bluetooth. My previous car, a Seat Altea Sport 140 TDI had similar buttons and full Bluetooth connectivity but Scirocco system won't link up.Phoned local dealer who advised that they all came with the standard steering wheel buttons but I need a software upgrade to have Bluetooth , and that it will then work with RSAP phones. He assured me I need no new hardware , just a software download which costs £310 plus VAT ! Has anyone come across this before, seems rather costly for a download and no hardware.Pardon my ignorance , but what is RSAP?
Thanks.

Hi Sam

you came to the right place, yes all the mfsw's are identical regardless of what options have been fitted but for bluetooth you do need additional hardware it requires a bluetooth box which is located under the passenger seat (pic here)
rsap is a type of bluetooth that only works with some phones (its nokia technology so won't be found on iphones etc) the original system in the scirocco was restricted to rsap phones but the new VW bluetooth is capable of functioning with all bluetooth phones as it is 'proper' bluetooth.

where abouts in the UK are you? someone may be able to suggest somewhere to go that actually knows what they are talking about to get it fitted.
