Damage to Rear Nearside Wheel Arch

Post by Peter in Hexham »

Hi All

Some prat (unknown) swipped my Scirocco in a Car Park, been quoted nearly £300 to repair.

Should I consider someone like Chipsaway as a cheaper alternative

Anyone used them?

Any CCTV coverage in the carpark or entry/exit of the car park if you have a tight window of opportunity?

Don't, under any circumstances take it to the Benfield bodyshop in Newcastle by the Arena. They can make galvanised cars rust and the repairs are piss-poor.

I have an almost identical dent - picked up on my street. Whoever did it didn't stop to tell me either. They also clipped the alloy. Haven't had a quote, but have also thought about Chipsaway - please do post with how you get on - good luck.

Hi,

Mrs Peter in Hexham was in charge at the time, it could of happened any time over Easter, in either Metro Centre, Eldon Square, Kingston Park........do you see a pattern there.

She never noticed and can't remember exactly where she parked.

No blame on her at all, but we're both gutted

My alloy is slightly damaged as well, that's another £50

I would hate to be a Chipsaway Guniea Pig tho'

I would take it to a VW approved bodyshop myself, but I am not sure where your closest one is.

Gilez: If you knew what I knew about my local VW approved bodyshop (which could well be Peter's local VW approved bodyshop also), you wouldn't even think to go there. They made such a mess of my car I had to get shot of it. Reputation is everything, go to one that someone can recommend based upon experience.

I live in Birmingham and had some work done to my wheel arches by Reynolds of rushdon, who are VAG and Porsche approved. They are located between Birmingham and worcester so a bit far for you.

was gutted to come out to the car park and see a similar dent and scratch to my rear wheel arch this afternoon...no one bothered to leave me a note...(no CCTV!)..very annoying! Took it straight to a local garage which was recommended to me who do a lot of body work and insurance jobs - they've said it'll need to be resprayed and have quoted me £150 to remove the dent and respray the panel. I've got deep black pearl paint and am worried if they'll be able to blend the paint properly. Just wondered how everyone else got on - did you use a main dealer body shop? does £150 seem reasonable? i cleaned the alloy later and noticed that was scuffed as well but they've not given me a price for that as we didn't notice it at the time (wheels too dirty!)

cheers

I've just had my bonnet resprayed in rising blue due to a horrendous stone chip. Carl Vella was where I had it done in Preston. An excellent colour match. It cost £240 including vat. I tried a touchup first but I couldn't live with it

Sorry to hear aboout the damage there, exactly the same happened to me and I used chips away in Durham and it cost me £120 and was a cracking job.
So i guess £150 sounds reasonable :)

I used this guy in the NE on the XC90 where the kids swung the gate into it....apart from not fitting the light back in properly which was easily rectified, he did a spot on job on the actual dent.

Would get it done properly, don't entertain any of the smart repair guys as they are usually useless and anyone who sprays your car in the street or garden is not going to get a satisfactory result in my book.

Good Luck !
