Paid around that for mine last year. I'd only been back in the house an hour after dropping it off and they rang to say it was ready  And they'd managed to wash it in that time.
I know they don't do much, I would do it myself but I aint got a VW stamp to stamp the service booklet.

I didn't expect them to do anything much more than that. I'm just trying to highlight the fact that although £129 sounds like a good price for a main dealer service - in this case you aren't actually getting much for that money.

I know what you mean, but depending on where you are labour rates are around £80 per hour so you don't get much for your money :-)

I totally agree with you, I am happy with £129, and also surprised as I expected my local dealer (L/Pool)to be more expensive, when of all the quotes i had they were the best. Over recent yearsI have found it cheaper to travel to the Lake district for my servicing ( Audi/BMW) and saved alot of money and had a day mountain biking, not the case this time Hadwins in Grange over Sands wanted £170.

I asked for it to be done due to 95% of my driving is very short journeys of under 6 miles and soot/carbon build up on the injector nozzle faces in the cylinder. Without it, the 1st service cost all in, would have been £84.

RW1: Costco are cheap on redex at the moment if you know a member - 4 x 500ml bottles for about £11. Do you rate that stuff? Not sure whether the smoke given off is the crap it's shifted or whether it smokes itself?

Don't use Redex as an injector cleaner, doesn't really work. As it used to be marketed for in the 50's & 60's "upper cylinder lubricant", I'll use it mixed in the tank in my older two injection engine I have for exactly that to good effect on long runs on hot days (No smoke). It never cleans the injectors like Mech-Tec Injector Cleaner made by Merrontree Group Ltd of Watford which is what I generally use for servicing. They don't have a website iirc. Hard to find in motor factors. Generally pick mine up locally in one garage or at VW shows with certain traders. I can't use it on the 1.4TSi due to warranty.

The reason for getting the garage to do it was warranty & the misfire sensitivity of the 1.4TSi 160PS engine. Had it done only as a precaution. The real issue with the 1.4TSi is over-wide spark plug gap. As in my 1.4TSi intermediate service topic on here , they are set far too wide as supplied pre-gapped to VW at the factory for the charger blown engine, so the spark is weaker and is being blown out = misfire.

I occassionally use in the 1.4TSi as an intermediate, VW's own G 001 700 03 Fuel Additive which was originally for carburettor Icing prevention on my Beetles in the '70's. VW now use it for that, plus corrosion prevention, intake cleaning (not relevant on 1.4 due to direct injection) and injector cleaner. It works.

Kev wrote:One thing to note on the potential difference in servicing costs is that the second service lists an air con check/service which they should offer as an optional thing for about £75. Some of those prices might have added it by default.

They only asked me when took it in this morning so that's an unexpected top up on the price.
Just had a phone call from my dealer advising me that my 2nd year service is due in a few weeks. They quoted me £274 which seems a bit steep compared to other quotes in this thread.
I wonder if they have added the £75 airconcheck by default like you say Kev. If so that would put it in line with the other quotes.
I'll ring round for some more quotes then go back to them and ask. Glad I read all thru this thread

Had the 2nd service done yesterday on my 1.4 TSi 160. Got the price down to £154 in the end. Recommended air con service would have been another £49.

Also had the 24S4 recall engine control unit software update done - as "some owners had experienced some problems with the running of the engine". Only visible change is the gear indicator on the MFD.

Cheers mate, £149 is excellent, I paid £185 for year 2 and that was after haggling down from £220, again getting a price match from another dealer.

Got my 3rd year service booked, but could only get £206! May get cheaper by looking further afield but by the time you factor in fuel costs, time and effort probably not worth it.

Is that with an MOT as well?
Mine's due in March so I'll probably book the date this week.

Hi Kev, no MOT was extra, about £50, but.... I did have a loyalty voucher from another VW dealer for a £10 MOT which they are going to honour for me, so £216 all in.

They did try and offer me a 2 year service/ mot deal for £379, that would save about £50 if I paid the full price for the MOT.

Mines not due a 3rd service until June or later but my MOT is due March 5th.
I called in to the dealer and enquired about the 2 year service package for £379 which includes 2 Mot's.
He said good time to do it because the 4th year (next year)service is the major one for me and would be £249 and this years is about £135.
As I've no intention of changing the car for another 2 years it seemed the best option.Even if I do sell the car the plan is transferable
I know I can get it done cheaper but my dealer have always looked after my car and the thought of careless oiks messing with my motor is not worth the grief.
So it's booked for an MOT just before the warranty runs out and they can sort a few niggles out at the same time.

I've just booked mine for the MOT and service.
I was quoted £139 for the service, £39 for the MOT and they recommend a brake fluid change (which won't be done for another 2 years) for £59.
Not too bad all in.
