Just wanted to ask for your opinions whether these quotes are fair etc (mods related).
- Spray paining the alloys - £120 - for all four and they will supply the paint. And is this a really hard DIY job is it? Because I reckon with £30 ish I could buy the paint and may as well give it a go myself? Just that I've never done this before so wouldn't know where to start.
- Vinyl wrap the mirrors and the rear diffuser - £300 - £100 for the mirrors and £200 for the diffuser (as more material will be used). And will they have to take the bumper & mirror caps off or there is no need to?
- Also wondered where is the best / cheapest place to get your lowering springs fitted? (Dorset / London).
And here comes the cheeky part. If anybody lives in Dorset or London, or anywhere near by (don't really mind driving up North a bit, as long as it's not that far) and is willing to help out with some VAGCOM coding (as well as the accelerator pedal tool thing) then please give me a shout. That would be seriously appreciated! *I will of course supply the beers etc*.
The vinyl wrap price for the diffuser is a joke, I had grill, lower grill, diffuser, gloss trims to tailgates, badges and number plate recess done for around £180, this was 3m carbon effect
The way things are with work at the moment I can be found in a hotel in London Mon-Wed nights every week (ish). I have the accelerator pedal tool which I could bring with me.
Also, I do have a vag com cable but must admit I've never actually used it yet due to having battery issues with my laptop! With regard to coding I'd probably not be the best person to help for fear of buggering it up.
Accelerator tool is really not required, I used a 2mm and a 3mm allen key, it was not at all fiddly, and start to finish on the whole changeover of all 3 pedals took 10 mins. Have a good look at the underside of the new pedal to gauge how far in you need to poke the allen keys, where the clip pressure application points are and it's a piece of cake.
After unscrewing the top bolt, I unpopped the front left clip first by pushing the allen key in about 3/4 of an inch and pulling right to push the peg clip left and lifted the pedal away from the left peg and pushed the allen key into the right hand hole, which you just push straight against and off the accelerator pedal pops when you lift. It's a lot easier to pop left clip and tilt on the right peg than simultaneously applying pressure to both peg clips and trying to lift the pedal with your 3rd hand (something not previously mentioned in any guides i've read).
Most important step here for ease of removal of the old pedal is study of the underside of the new one to know where to be pushing.
If you have a 10mm socket and 2 small allen keys (small as in width of shank, notlength), as well as a set of pliers for pulling the rubber plugs of the pedals through the back of the brake and clutch pedal arms there is no need to wait for the tool.
If you haven't spray painted before, i'd leave the wheels well alone and get someone else to do it - not a basic DIY job to do nice and evenly.

With checking out APD for vagcom etc as nice guys
Yeah sounds like I'm being ripped off big style! I'll just have to keep on looking around and get as many quotes from different places. And big thanks Ian, but just Googled APD and they certainly seem the business (I just hope they're not too expensive)! I'll also try and work my way around with the pedals as maisbitt suggested, can't be that complicated!
Going to work in a minute but tomorrow & saturday got more time to look at different places & prices. Will also do a bit of research on springs and will try to find out where's the best place to have them fitted.
Thanks for that wigit. Spoke to the dealer yesterday and he said the car's ready earlier than expected, so picking it up on Monday. Booked in with Regal Auto in Southampton for Tuesday to get it lowered, and then just driving up to Daventry to get those bits wrapped (Alex said he might just be able to sort me a deal too). Also booked Wednesday off work to get as many mods installed, I just hope I won't break anything.
"Good luck with regal" you say it like it's not a very wise move booking in with them!? An alternative option was JKM in Portsmouth. Not many professional garages around Dorset I guess. Regal Autosport quoted £200 and JKM £180. Thought I'd spare £20 and hope to get some better service. And yeah I was actually contemplating a remap as well but probably won't be able to afford it on the insurance (£2000 premium on the bog standard car + I still have to declare the whatever mods I'm currently doing).
On a side note, booked in with APD VAG for Wednesday - they charge £34.50 for half an hour but within that time they will try and make as many changes as I want... Reasonable?

My car should have landed in the UK last night so I too will be looking for a few VAGCOM updates, so I'm interested in what vcds(vagcom) changes your having done and as APD are reasonably close I’d be interested in how things go down at APD.
wigit wrote:Mixed views on them, I'd recommend JKM as they do loads of work on friends golfs and have looked at rocco
APD are about right, when you in daventry as need to pop over to see alex for my next project
Okok I've cancelled with Regal and booked in with JKM! And spoke to Alex again this morning, he's quite busy next week so we arranged for the 6th of July (Wednesday) morning time. Next project? This sounds interesting?!

Ermm.. Beep when locking, cornering lights, coming and leaving home lights, change the DRL's for the sidelights, maybe the needle sweep on start and possibly activate the video-in-motion.. Hope I haven't missed anything. If you wanted to contribute with some ideas then please do so haha.

Oh i guess you've orderd satnav to have Video in motion option enabled? Not sure cornering lights add much TBH, I was thinking of needle sweep, beep when locking, sidelights as DRL's, and the MFD big speedo
No I didn't actually, but I have bought an RNS and will have that fitted prior to visiting APD (in fact the guys where I got it from might enable that for me, just depends if the price is acceptable enough). And yeah to be fairly honest I don't even know what they are / do but have read people mentioning them so thought I'd do it too (will ask APD to explain it me).
Quick question guys. I know this had been discussed before but I just wanted to double check. Picked up the car today (extremely happy) and I'm booked in to have the H&R's fitted tomorrow. Had a convo with my next door neighbour this evening and he said not to have it done yet because it will void warranty (regardless if it's an engine problem or anything else - they'll do anything to void your warranty - ofc that is in case something does go wrong).
So, shall I give it at least a year or so before modding it or what do y'all recommend?
Also, on a side note just wanted to ask for some help if anyone's local (Dorset or near by) - to fit little bits and bobs (IE change LED's in and out, fit the centre console (covered cup holder), pedals etc) - will get you a bear or two and may pay some cash...
If you have the patience, the right tools and a logical mind, the covered cup holder is an hours job, and the pedals are 10 mins. The LED swap outs are easy too, made even easier if you have small hands for access (I don't!).
VW can't point-blank refuse to honour your warranty for an unrelated mod. If you have lowering springs and you have an issue with your ACC or shocks, they could claim it's connected to your mod, or if you have engine/exhaust troubles they might connect it to your remap etc. At the end of the day, the dealerships want your money or VWs money. If there's warranty work to be had, I doubt they'll be telling VW about your mods unless it is obvious to VW under potential investigation that your mod caused the issue.

After double-checking with a couple different dealers I decided to have the H&R's fitted today, and I must say I'm seriously in love with the new look!
As for the other mods, I got the small hands I guess but haven't got the tools, nor a 'logical mind'! I've done the clutch and brake pedals (snapped the rubber bolt on the clutch so yeah, that's how good I am!), and therefore decided not to touch the accelerator pedal - same with the centre console and LED's (don't want to break anything)...
And yesyes the beer can be whatever you prefer. Otherwise chocolate milkshakes it is. Just help out por favor.
Cornelce: The "logical mind" bit is being able to look at the what needs doing and "deconstruct it" in your head. If you can understand how everything clips and screws into everything else, it makes the job a lot easier. I'm a bit far away to be helping you ~350 miles. Must be someone near you on here that'll help out.....
