Scirocco Facelift 2013 - your ideas please..

Post by pafa »

I have a friend who works in Wolfsburg in Germany, in the Scirocco team.

I talked to him this weekend, and made the suggestion that you guys had a lot of good ideas for the facelift of the Scirocco, which will be coming in 2013.

He thought it would be a great idea, to hear what the current Scirocco owners, would like to see in the facelifted version (and maybe even the MK4 version)

If you make a suggestion, please explain in detail what the suggestion is (so they dont have to guess what you mean).

I can already tell you that (off course) LED rear lights will apprear on the facelifted Scirocco.

Please dont Hi-jack this thread - it will be delivered straight to the Scirocco team in Wolfsburg.

pafa,

Sounds like the Mk4 is going down the same path as the Iroc. Some enthusiast's input.

It is a bit of a basic one but Led drl's throughout the range rather than the headlights as drl's! Or at least on the GT. Finishes a car off so much better.

I'd say less of a gap around the wheels to the wheel arches, its quite a big gap and something bmw and audi's don't appear to suffer from.

might be too large to address in a facelift though.

1. One thing that really gets to be is how close the pedals are to the drivers seat in relation to how far you can pull the steering wheel forward.

I'm sure its a safety thing but it would be good if the pedals could be set slightly further back or the steering wheel could come further forward (and a bit lower).

2. Seat pockets behind the driver and passenger seats?

3. Option to de-badge the engine designation but not the 'Scirocco' model inscription.
Jay.

I would like the LED lights to be optional as I personally think they look chav-tastic.

Better build quality on the dash as just starting to get my first rattle after 7k miles.

A sunroof that does more than open an inch.

Just a quick question the facelift is due in 2015 then when is the mk4 coming out? makes no sense wasnt it suppose to be around 2014 the launching of the mk4?
On another note i would like to see on the facelifted mk3:
1- The bi-xenon lights with the led's around them like the mk6 gti as well as rear led's
2- Optional painted calippers would be nice
3- Not sure how to put this but meaner looking exhaust like on the megane rs250 or like the ones on the mk6 gti.
Ohhhh ya one more thing (the 5 buttons where the acc and esp are located) i was wondering if they can all serve a purpose. ie on the gti: you can have the buttons in this order: esp, acc, park pilot, tyre pressure. My point is that they should make more stuff available for the 5 buttons on the scirocco like the gti as i mentioned.

4motion as an option (preferably with diesel and DSG box, but also with some petrol versions) !!!
(and with that, of course possibility to deactivate ESP completely!!!)

The key fob of the Passat CC (or maybe all Passats and other VW models now?) without the actual key blade.

A GTI model (with the attributes GTI stands for in Golf and Polo models)

LED front lights as well as rear!

My one request would be...

Don't make it any bigger!

There's a trend in car manufacturing that every successive model seems to get a little bit larger each time. It's got so bad that they're now adding models below the bottom of the range (like the BMW 1er and the Ka) because the smallest ones have got so large now. I think it's an ideal size and it should stay like that.

Obvious things like new lights and bumper shapes are a given.

Put in a better MFD with better graphics and more info and integrate the ipod info better. Maybe even have album art showing up for passengers.

I second that! Definately needs to look lower as standard. If they can make a Golf Gti sit right - so should the Roc!

I'd prefer to loose the frameless windows. Mine did freeze a couple of times in the winter and I just don't see the advantage of them. They are only any different from a normal door with the window down and the door open, but with climate control, I never have the windows down anyway. Having to have electronics nudge the windows up and down every time you open a door, seems a recipe for long term problems. This is obviously not a facelift job, but I would like the Mk4 to have "proper" doors. I'd echo Kev's comment about not making the MK4 any bigger too. Model bloat is a problem with all manufacturers, but are our garages and car park spaces getting bigger every year?! To be honest, I'm still so happy with mine overall, it's hard to think of anything serious to change. If it got stolen tomorrow, I'd buy the exact same car and spec again, and I wouldn't have done that with any of my previous cars as I normally fancy a change.

- Reduce the thickness of the A pillars - hides padestrians/bikers under some circumstances.
- Reduce the thickness of the C pillars - limits the 3/4 rear view.

- Improve rear view mirror distant visibility.
- Improve the wing mirror coverage, blind spots cannot be eliminated.
- Find an alternative rear headrest design that doesn't impair the rear view.

- Reduce the weight of the doors. Too heavy, particularly when parked uphill.

- Fit a bonnet strut as standard.

- Have separate DRLs to headlights and not twinkle christmas tree lights like the new EOS etc.

- On the 1.4TSi 160PS a heater that works in winter at +5'C and below.
.. Joke to freeze in urban traffic with an engine that doesn't warm up for 20 mins and the windscreen to freeze up on the motorway.
.. Perhaps an Aux. heater like the diesel which switches on during warm-up and
.. also when the climatronic cannot provide enough heat when the engine is warm

- Improve covered/hidden storage on the driver's side with more space.

I know it would require some major bodywork but I would like to see the boot lip much lower. LED running lights. With just a facelift then no major bodywork shape changes, it looks just about perfect to me.

Very cool, keep´em coming!

So far i have:

1. LED Daylight running lights (already planned by VW)
2. Less gap between the wheels and the wheel arches (2 votes)
3. Moore room for adjusting the steering wheel
4. Seat pockets behind the driver and passenger seats
5. Overall better build quality (no more rattles) (2 votes)
6. Option not to fit LED lights (both DRL and rear i guess?)
7. Sunroof that actually opens.
8. Combat the problem with freezing windows in winter (they are already aware of this problem)
9. Rear LED lights (already planned by VW)
10. Optional painted brake calippers
11. "Meaner" looking exhaust, like golf mk6 gti lights (dual exhaust i guess?)
12. Better use of the 5 buttons below the center console, no more "ghost" buttons.
13. 4motion as an option (dont think this will happen, as this is part of the Golf R´s selling point)
14. Keep the Scirocco the same size as now.(2 votes)
15. Better graphics and detail in the MFD. (will be hard to implement, as the MFD is shared across many VW models)
16. "Better" Ipod integration
17. Loose the frameless windows (hmm, not sure they want to do that, but ill send it along)
18. Reduce size of the A and C pillars.
19. Improve rear view mirror distant visibility, improve wing mirror coverage
20. Reduce the weight of the doors.
21. Find an alternative rear headrest design that doesn't impair the rear view
22. Fit a bonnet strut as standard (or option?)
23. Fit the LED DRL seperately to the headlights (like the Scirocco R?)
24. Fit a heater to the engine, so that windows dosent freeze in the winter, when the engine is cold
25. Improve covered/hidden storage on the driver's side with more space.
26. Lower boot lid.

Not applicable:

1. Option to de-badge the engine designation but not the 'Scirocco' model inscription (this is done by the dealer, not VW)
2. Deactivate ESP completely (already implemented on BW22 2011)

Quick note about the release of the facelift and later MK4 as one user asked. The Scirocco follows another development
cycle than fx the Golf, as the Scirocco is an enthusiast car (like the Passat CC and Eos) - the Golf and Passat are "normal"
cars that have a shorter span between model changes.

VW are working on the facelift right now - there is no info on the MK4 development as of right now, they are busy with the facelift :-)

More ideas?

I would like and not like

1. LED Daylight running lights 2. Less gap between the wheels and the wheel arches
2. Lower the bloody thing it rides too high
3. Combat the problem with freezing windows in winter (i still want frameless door though)
4. Better graphics and detail in the MFD.
5. Loose the frameless windowsXXXXX DONT SEND THIS ONE ITS A DUMB IDEAXXXX
6. Fit a bonnet strut as standard
7. Reverse camera as standard
8. its own unique dash not just lifted from the EOS
9. 200bhp Diesel
10. leather or at least half leather standard for GT spec up
11. meaner alloys that aren't a bitch to clean
12. No electronic parking Brake

I'm sure there will be more to come

I'm not an engine wiz, but I was reading on another forum that the golf r has the k04 engine. Does the scirocco r have it as well or is it a k03?
Another thing i would add to the list is: 2.0 tsi come at around 220bhp with a k04  seems meaner
