After 9 months the wait is almost over...
After 9 months the wait is almost over...
After delay, bullsh*t from the dealer and alot of patience we are on the final countdown. The car is at the dealer, paperwork all sorted and posted back...picking up on Tuesday...
Best of all not only did I manage to secure last years promo lease rates there has also been an error in my favour which means I'm getting the Scirocco £40 a month less than what I was quoted...
All turned out well in the end although the trials & tribulations have taken the shine off a little. Let's hope the Scirocco is worth it!

First impressions 24 hrs later...
+ 250+ miles on <1/3rd of a tank of diesel is impressive (mixture of Motorway, fast 'A' roads with traffic and a little bit of town driving.I suppose the cruise control helps with a heavy right foot)
+ Love the flat bottomed MF steering wheel
+ iPhone integrates well with the bluetooth option
+ The engine is fast & responsive regardless of gear, first diesel I've had for a number of years so very surprised...I thought the XC90 the other 1/2 was driving until the beginning of the year had a turn of speed and could lift up its skirts when pressed but this really does put it to shame.
+ Got stuff I wasnt expecting (self dimming mirrors, auto lights, auto wipers)
+ The suspension button actually appears to do something when pressed
+ the boot is surprisingly usefully sized...more practical than the shallow boot in the 3 series coupe I've just sent back
- Coming out of a BMW some of the less obvious plastics feel a bit cheap (the door pockets, the flimsy cubby hole to the right of the steering wheel) and there is no excuse for the plastics on the centre tunnel and the sides of the rear seats, maybe the leather on the showroom car disguised them when I was shopping around...I'd have happily paid a few quid more for better quality plastics in these areas where you notice the penny pinching.
- The gear stick feels an inch too long
- the iPhone seems to be struggling with iPod playback if is interupted by a call coming thru
- Rear visibility...I'm gonna wish I'd paid for the rear sensors...
All in, to say I''m paying 1/2 the price I was paying for the BMW, I dont think I'm getting 1/2 the car so I'm more than happy...

Re: After 9 months the wait is almost over...
good overview,
You might want to see my post in the tech room about the bluetooth audio.
You seem to have got your at a decent price, I did get a couple other option and the 170 so evens itself out.
Consumption wise the 170 seems pretty similar.
Out of interest (as it seems you have contract hired before) do you know what sort of option they provide at the end of the contract (extension etc) the reason I ask is my leasing compnay go very hazy when the question is asked!

Re: After 9 months the wait is almost over...
Yep we had the Volvo on a 2yr deal and left it too late to order something else so extended it another year...we were expecting the price to stall orcstay the same but it went up almost a £100pm! I think we timed that with a big fall in used prices and the road tax for big gas guzzlers going up...the BMW was on a 3yr deal and we wanted out lift cos of the cost so never asked. They usually allow you to extend but never asked beyond 3 years which I think is when the trade lose interest in taking them back. Had prices for both to buy and both were higher than main dealer prices so hardly the bargain they'd have you believe.mortc002 wrote:

Despite the messing around we had with this one, the Tiguan we got from the same dealer/lease company was a problem free experience and we have both cars for less than I was paying for the BMW so quids in before I fator in the £150-200 pm we are saving on fuel...the Scirocco is looking like 25-30% more efficient than the BMW...the Tiguan is almost 50% better than the XC90 we lost a row of sets (that we used 2x in 3 years) but will save £000's...it was great on a motor way run but <15 mpg on the school run which was 10 miles each way...amazing how the hike in the cost of fuel has changed our priorities in <3years
