What next after an R

Wise words indeed! You are absolutely right and I have already been looking at several on PistonHeads.
My gut feeling also tells me that a used R8 could be perceived as being more reliable than a used GT-R. And my nearest Audi dealer is in Aberdeen, whereas the nearest GT-R dealer is in Edinburgh. So a used Audi R8 does make sense, and it's a comparable price with the new specced up TT-RS that I was originally contemplating!
And I'm certain beyond any doubt, that the R8's performance would totally blow my mind away, even though the GT-R is always reported as being the super-car killer.
And let's be honest, where in the NE Scotland could I really unleash the performance of either car?

So it looks like a trip to my local Audi dealer is the next order of the day!

All in all I personally think that the R8 is the best looking car out of the three as well (but then again, I guess different people have different taste).

i did a drivers day experience on a R8 and have to say its such an easy car to drive at both low and high speeds

If you can stretch to an R8 (or buy something else, then bide time), go for it. Usable every day. Engine sounds fantastic, roars above 5000rpm. Not driven something with so much grip and sureness, on circuit its additively amazing. Definitely give the M3 a test, fantastic M car.

Just come back from a test drive of a 1M BMW. Great car. It does have better feel in steering, pedals and gear change and the sound is wonderful. Would cost me about £20k to change. For those looking to spend early 30's on a new R its worth consideration I think.

I'd take the R over that anyway. I'm stuck between still going "fun" and getting a TTRS (awaiting some info from Anakin after a year or so of him owning) or "mellowing out a but" and going A5. I actually think I might just keep this Scirocco a lot longer than I thought though.

Love the 1M but yes, £40k before options...

That puts it in the next league up. Not a fan of the TTRS.

Would have to be an M3 next i think, but that's not for a while yet!

I was considering a 1m coupe until I realised there was a new model out in sept, didn't get as far as a test drive. Gonna stay with my rococo r now.

Yeh good point I guess I was thinking of the 1M in base spec which is what I would have chosen just with the orange paint so £40k and I know many have spent well into the 30's. The 1M was superb from an engineering, sound point of view but so to is the R and just as unique.

The orange one I saw was £45k. And the centre radio bit was very plasticky looking for a car at that price. U don't even get metal pedals like the R.

The one I tried was privately owned by the owner and probably £46K? You are the right though they are bland in the extreme inside. The rear seats are a laugh givenI am 5 ft 7 and the pedal box is tiny. I kept hitting the foot rest on gear change. Saying all that I think it looks and goes the business. The engine is something else. I think I personally prefer to the Cayman S engine.

Having just chopped in 330 in I can honestly say that the extras on a BM are right up there with the most expensive, not too mention servicing costs and all round poo-ness (engine management/limp home mode every 4-5 months). After an epic legal battle about having my third clutch in its first year (driver error jokes most welcome now, but not at the time!) they eventually caved after their head engineer said "our clutches are simply not as robust as they need to be nowadays" so prepare yourself for a new clutch and flywheel every 15k.

Having just read the EVO review of the 1M it does seem to be a mega car, they preferred it to an M3! (albeit its getting on a bit now and I'm sure the next reincarnation will use the same tech!).

I dont want this to come across as sour grapes as I think I just got unlucky with my car dying all the time and I would consider a beemer again in the right circumstances but heed my warning they can go wrong big time, it will certainly be expensive to fix and BM customer services are the worst I have ever dealt with. Sometimes companies fess up to a problem and can enhance your opinion in how they deal with it - they go the other way.

I still remember when collecting my car one day after a service....."sorry Sir we forgot to do the er,,, service"!.

I saw one of the 1M's being driven the other week by journalist, racing line across a roundabout, lol. Does sound quite nice, maybe not as vocal as the M3 though. Im keen to drive one, but I much prefer the look of the Roc R or TT RS, more aggressive stance. Give it two years and the price will drop.
My dad had the E60 M5 for 3 years and a few months ago changed to a new E93 M3. Both very nice, and not really had any problems with either.

i'll be controversial and say a Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy in black, only 50 for the uk market and a proper drivers hot hatch, would be interested in a more focused on, in reality i'd quite happily have a R26R at the moment as ticks the box of what i want at the moment
