My car is 2 years old, 2 weeks ago the arm rest developed a loud squeak when opening the storage compartment, car was booked in for a sevice anyway so I mentioned this - I expected them to lubricate it. They suggested replacing all the centre console (under warranty otherwise the cost would be about £300) The part has been ordered but the sqeak has now gone (was due to warm weather)
Would you let them replace the part anyway? Sods law says it would start again when out of warranty, I find it difficult to believe it can't just be lubricated, might replacing it cause other problems?

Re: Squeaking Armrest
A bit of silicone lubricant in there would resolve the issue, they are just making money out of VW, I suspect the new part will suffer the same issue ultimately.
