Roc Windscreen is it really weak?

Post by char »

Well took my Roc out for its first holiday jaunt and on the M6 it took its first stone strike which immediately chipped the windscreen :grumpy: not impressed at all, was driving approx 70mph as I was seeing how far I could get on a single tank (was on target for 630miles) and the traffic around me was going at a similar speed so is the Roc windscreen particularly weak? I've had other cars that have been hit much faster and harder with only impact traces that rub off.

On the positive side, very nice and smooth drive, just annoying thats its done less than 800miles and already needs repairing

There are so many factors that would need to be considered, the outcome of a particular shape/weight stone hitting your windscreen in a particular location at a particular speed, I doubt it could ever be calculated.

Sod's law I am afraid. Glad you like the car though.
I can rely on my car, it's my Roc!!!

I thought you was going to say it had cracked it, i would consider getting just a chip at 70 mph (considering how fast the stone would be moving) is getting away lightly, also as said above not all stones are equal :D

I took a chip under similar circumstances in my first week - my old car survived for 3 years without one, it got hit regularly but never chipped so I would guess the windscreen isnt as strong as others.

I think to take a chip at 70 mph is ok but I do think the screen is very easily damaged. It scratches very easily from the wiper action and I have lots of chips from stones at alot less than 70mph.

I had never suffered a cracked windscreen before but got my first one ever on my Roc. A stone flew up at about 70mph and caused a small crack in the screen which required replacement.

Cost me £75 excess but never had that happen before on any other car.

friend of mine just bought a brand new roc. she drove it out of dealership, onto motorway home. 5 minutes later she took a hit and windscreen cracked!! straight back to dealership and lots of eyelash fluttering and they reluctantly offered to replace it. i think she was both unlucky, then extremely lucky the dealer took such an understanding view of it. does make you wonder how strong they are.
