Delivery of a Leased Car

Post by superchoward »

I've recently ordered a Scirocco from a leasing company which was a cancelled order due to be built in week 15. When I asked the leasing company about how the car will be delivered to me they told me that it would be driven to me by a qualified driver at which point/mileage the leasing agreement will begin. The leasing company have told me that the dealer is based in Somerset and the car will be delivered to me in Blackpool.

As this is the first time I have leased a car I don't know whether this is standard practice or not but I am a bit worried and put off that the car will be delivered to me after having being driven for over 200 miles on the motorway so it will be dirty, difficult to inspect, run-in at a constant speed/revs and potentially stone chipped? Perhaps I'm being a bit anal about it but its the first time I've ever had a new car and I'd have expected that it would have been delivered on the back of a transporter or flatbed so it would reach me with next to no miles on and as clean as a whistle!

Am I just being paranoid or is it something I should be asking questions about?

Well if you're leasing it it's not really yours but the finance company's so it's kinda up to them I suppose.

If ur buying outright then you'd have more say on the delivery front.

But no idea really what you're entitled to as I've never leased a car.

The car being delivered to you is the norm with leased cars... unless they've got a few to deliver to the area the 'qualified driver' route is the main one they'll take.

Given it's leased you won't have much come back, but seen as you don't own it, there is less to be personally bothered about - though i do get what you mean as i'd be the same!!

I thought it must have been normal otherwise they wouldn't do it I guess. I'll just have to have a look round for damage before I sign for it to make sure they don't try and pin it on me at the end of the agreement. Now I wonder if the clutch would last 30,000 miles after a remap.....

Depends on the lease company. I've had one driven to me with c100 miles on the clock. My last one - Insignia Sports Tourer (that's estate to you & me! ) - was delivered on the back of a truck with 5 on the clock.

A mate at work has just had her A3 delivered on a truck, so hopefully this means my Scirocco will be too (it's a company car from the same lease company).

I had one delivered to Reading from Manchester in the past. It was a convertible on a lovely sunny day so even came with the roof down.

Just make sure you give it a good check over and note the mileage.

I think it depends on how smooth the order process has been , I waited 8 months for mine and insisted that they deliver it on a trailer , but I think they were feeling the pressure of a large company who place lots of company car orders a year breathing down their neck so they were keen to please.

Think it depends whether you are returning a car? Mine was delivered by a guy who drove it and then drove back the old car, it seems to be the norm as long as the new car will arrive to you with less than 100 miles on it.

I used Skyfleet. PM me if you need more details.

Char: Using Google maps to measure from somewhere in Somerset to Blackpool it's over 200 miles so the car will have that on. I'll wait a bit longer and see what they say when it comes to crunch time and they are actually delivering it. They aren't picking another car up so I don't know how the driver is going to get home!
