Mine have a bit of rust on them but most of the cars I've owned have had this too - don't think there's much you can do about it but I have seen people paint the hubs with a hamerite type paint which seems to stop it.

Yeah I think it's the brake rotor what's exposed it's got quite a lot of rust on and looks a bit crappy I think I will have to paint it.

The issue is the thin coatings they use on parts. Its not a problem, they are prefectly fine, they can just look a bit unsightly. All the parts underneath will rust through the coating during the life of the car, the cast parts are just the first to go.

You can paint them which will hide it for a while.

I have been experiencing the same problem with rust on my hubs. I know that audi’s suffer from the same problem and their dealer ships rubs the hubs down and coat a heat resistant aluminium paint to the hubs as a good will gesture. I went into my local VW dealers the other day to see if they did the same thing but was disappointed when I was told it was something that I would have to live with. .

Shaun: Yep, but plenty of Non-R's have this issue too. Seems a bit of a lottery whether you have it or not. Just 2 years ago, the local dealership had VW banners proclaiming VWs rarely look their age (presumably to reassure you that a VW is a good investment). They've obviously never heard of cosmetically corroded hubs and wheel centre caps etc.

I definitely have some of this going on, though not as severe as the pics above. As I recall, only on the rears too.

Hey
I recently rubbed my hubs down & painted them hammerite smooth silver.
It really looks nice, very happy with the result.
