Why is it that only a rare few of dealers will let you pick a number plate? Years ago on an MG the salesman bluntly said 'no'!

Arrived 23rd March '09 - Lovin' it

I've had mixed experiences with this too, as some dealers have let me pick while others haven't. I remember getting to pick the reg of my first ever new car and it added to the experience.

My dealer said I could pick my plate, but then it turns out someone else at the dealer allocated it already so could not do it. Does not matter now anyway as I found a great private plate for sale.

Saw my new car yesterday - it looks great, of course, but with the delivery white tape all over it, it reminded me of Starsky and Hutch's car! Picked a letter on my number plate (it was an S, for Mr S!!), sorted my insurance and now have 3 long weeks to wait.......
